We have a contract with ***************************** of Aspire to carry out renovations on our home. The work was scheduled to take place over 3 months last summer and contract to be complete on August 10, 2021. This project has been plagued with delays, due largely to materials being ordered late by Aspire. Aspire is now almost 7 months late on a 3 month schedule. We have great trouble getting information from the contractor on when he will finish this work. In particular, he installed our stove hood vent fan deficiently. In order to avoid putting a new vent hole through the house wall at the new stove vent location, which is about 16 inches to one side and much further up the wall, he has used a flexible vent pipe, twisted in an S curve and flatten down to only 1.5 inches, He has also failed to connect the stove vent fan to the furnace to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, as is required by the City of Calgary and the ******************* building codes. We have pointed out to Aspire that the stove vent hood is not installed according to the relevant codes and have been trying to get them to correct the installation for almost 2 months since the beginning of January to no avail. ***************************** claims that a "correct" installation would be an extra to the contract. But the contract clearly states that all work will be to all relevant codes. There is also a clause that allows me to terminate the contract if corrective work is not carried out by the contractor within 15 days (we gave notice to Aspire by email on Feb 15, 2022). Meanwhile, this work just continues to get dragged out with no updated schedule since June 2021. We desperately need some help to get this contractor to complete this work, including the corrected installation of the stove vent hood with no further delay and no further charges. We would also like a City Inspection to verify that the corrected work is to City requirements. We would be willing to participate in a mediated resolution with the help of the BBB.
