After I spilled coffee on my ****** ThinkPad keyboard in November of last year, I took it to PC Butler in Rothesay, having read good reviews of its service. It took more than three weeks for it to be fixed, and the bill ($415.15) seemed high, even allowing for the extra $100 or so I had agreed to pay in order to get a replacement keyboard from a supplier I was told would be quicker, but pricier. Within a few days some keys stopped working. I took it back, but it behaved fine when I showed it to ****, who seems to be the sole technician. Within a few days the keys again stopped working. I waited to see if they would recover and then, in early January, took it back. He said he would need to do some research into the problem and would call me back. He never did, despite my leaving two messages reminding him. He appeared to have abandoned his efforts to make a repair. I took the laptop to ****** Micro in the city. The laptop was repaired with another new keyboard, within a week, for $195.50. I was told the keyboard **** had put in had been forced into place and warped. It was also pointed out that screws were stripped and there were gouges in it. A key had fallen out and it appeared that an attempt had been made to glue it back, although due to the way the key is constructed that was bound not to work. **** had charged me for fixing my laptop, had been slow, and as best as I can tell had done the work badly. The keyboard was still defective. I went back to him 30 March, 2022, to request a refund. He refused. The reason he gave me for refusing the refund was that I was too slow in bringing it back, although I pointed out that I had been waiting patiently for him to call me, as he had said he would. He said I should have brought the keyboard back in. Of course, I had brought it in, in January, when he told me to allow him to research and he would call me, which he didn’t, despite my reminders. I want a full refund.
