My son purchased a house in October of 2021. At the time, the house inspector recommended in his report that the sewage injector pump have a union check valve/gate valve. We had one installed later in October - a "new float switch with check valve" was installed. In May of 2022 the pump failed and Mr Pipes installed a new sewage pump for $1022.65 - 325 for labour and 50 truck charge (invoice 1099). At the beginning of August the pump failed but the supplier replaced it under warranty and we paid Mr Pipes $325 to have a new one installed. On August 6th -pump failed again but the technician wrote " pump still working but discharge pipe check valve appears to be malfunctioning. Removed check valve. All pumping well upon departure". The removal of the check valve and some ABS pipe was $275 (******* ****). When we complained to the company about the removal of the check valve and having to pay for installation of the new pump that was under warranty they removed $100 from the bill. In the manual for the pump that was installed on line - it says it should have a check valve and not having one says the life of the pump decreases with one. On their website they have a "2-year Workmanship Warranty. We take pride in the work we do. All of our repair jobs and new installations come with a 2-year warranty. It goes on to say "if it breaks again, we'll fix it again". What they fail to say is that you will have to pay all the labour again. For that reason- having to pay for labour again and not believing that check valve should have been removed - when the pump failed again this spring (May 2023) we went to a different plumber. My son had to stay up for 24 hours, call into work for two nights and bail out his sump pit until he managed to borrow a pump from a neighbour. We now have a new pump with a check valve by our third plumber.
