Reitzel Insulation recently enhanced our home attic insulation with blown cellulose insulation to the flat areas as well as spray foam insulation to the riser walls. Reitzel Insulation, Waterloo ON recently 'topped up' our attic insulation to 'current standards of R-60' and oh, what a difference that made. Reitzel's had done our attic insulation about 20 years ago, at the same location. We noticed with the hot summer we have been experiencing, that the 2nd floor of our home was warmer than we had remembered, so hoped that the extra insulation to bring us additional comfort. My experience was very good. The three fellas who installed the attic insulation were professional and polite. They did everything possible to minimize the amount of dust spreading.

My first complaint is the lack of communication after the job is complete. My home was built in the 40's and I decided that going with a polyurethane foam to fill the empty cavities of the walls would help with the energy cost of heating and cooling my house. I was made aware that I had to fix the 5/8 holes that would be drilled and covered with sheetrock 90, which I had no issues with. The workers that came were professional but seemed to be rushed as they did not tape off the windows and ledges before they stared drilling holes or foaming the walls. The technicians forgot to bring their vacuum to clean up the debris left from the drilling the holes in the walls. They did the best they could with the equipment they had with them, a broom and dust pan. I was told that I would be compensated for my time to vacuum, which I was. The issues that I had after was my big complaint. Parts of my walls have expanded and cracked the original plaster of Paris textured walls. On other parts the walls have separated in the corner joints. As well as having blown out walls, some of the walls have been concaved. This part of the insulation aftereffects were not discussed prior to the work completed. I was told that using spray foam was "the way to go" as it would seal the drafts in the window areas. I have reached out after the work was completed but have had no response. It would have been nice to be informed about possible effects of the polyurethane foam vs blown insulation.
