Hello, my name is *****************, thank you for your time. For two times now I have been given a quote from C and N muffler that was exceptable only to have them double the cost when it came time to pay. The first time I was quoted 1900.00$ to Change out a ****** 22RE engine, but when all the work was done *** ( the owner) charged me 3950.00$. I had no choice but to pay if I wanted my truck back. I recently made the mistake of going back to C and M and now regret it. I needed to have a manifold gasket replaced and was quoted at 3-400.00$ but was charged almost 700.00$ when the work was done. If I had been told it was going to b more than 400.00$ I wouldnt have had them do the work. Same as if I new I would have been charged 2050.00$ more than there quote for the engine swap. I am 55 years old, am a recovering alcoholic and have serious health issues. Having my truck kept from me is making my ability to get to work, go to Dr ************* and attend group and AA meetings impossible. I got 5 quotes from other local mechanics for the gasket change. All between 388.60$ and the most expensive @ ******. I will gladly pay the high end of the quote @ 400.00$ but not a ***** more. I own my own welding shop and if I under quote its my fault and I eat the cost. C and M shouldnt be any different. At the very least they could have called to let me know that there was a time or cost issue. Once again thank you for your time and consideration. Thanx *****************Business response

Hi, this is ******************************I was the guy originally talking to ***************** about his **** ****** Pickup.When I originally spoke to him in the office, I told him when it comes to exhaust manifolds, we start at 4 hours because of broken bolts and rust, which comes to $600 in just labor. When I then told him it would cost $600 plus parts, he was shocked. Trying to be nice, I told him if my technician working on the old truck could get the job done an hour faster, I would cut an hour off the time, but no promises. So, the new possible quote rate was 3 to 4 hours plus parts, depending on how the job went. After telling him this, he had said he was good with this quote, even if things took the full amount being quoted just under $700. So, the day comes, we install a new exhaust manifold gasket, it took my technician the full 4 hours to get the job done. Exhaust Manifold leak is now fixed. I put the full 4 hours, gasket set, and $30 worth of tax coming to ******. I called him thinking he would be completed fine with everything after talking the other day, but boy was I wrong. He cursed multiple times and hung up on me. After having this conversation with him, I decided to just give him the one-hour discount of $150 and call back just to hopefully make a customer happy. The new official bill is ******. He did not answer. A few days later he finally comes back in the office. I was not there that day, but my father *** was running the office and said he just through a fit and would barely let him speak. *** told him that he was going to give him the discounted price, but nothing helped ********************* attitude. He yelled, said he would not pay for more than $400, and even kicked the glass front door on his way out, which we have on camera.(Which we can send via email if needed)
Now as far putting a Motor in for him. This was done in 2018. As far as we knew he was happy with everything.When he came for the quote for this exhaust manifold gasket we just did, he told me the motor has been running great. The only issue after having it for the 5 years is the exhaust manifold leak that just developed. So, if he was not happy with the motor or the quote, we would have been just fine with him taking his truck to the shop of his choice.
I have attached an estimate from ***** Automotive, a shop who has been around for many years to show what a well know shop gets for this kind of Job in the area. If you look at the Estimate number in the top left its number is ******. The Estimate ***************** sent is from the newer shop outside of town showing it has only been around long enough to be on estimate #***.
I honestly did not think this would come to this point. I tried my best to deal with ***************** the same way I have with thousands of other happy customers.
