I purchased an outdated stand alone ecu that aem doesn't support anymore from a friend. The unit functions as it should ect. My review is purely on their sales tactics. I find it extremely confusing that they would raise the price for pins for a product they aren't upgrading or supporting in any way. There was no R&D or improvements that lead to this price hike. I know for a fact that materials didn't raise the cost of the pins 100%. $0.40 got 10 pins recently, suddenly that same $0.40 only gets 1 pin. There is no way this is a reasonable move based on price of materials. I purchased this series 1 ems from my friend as a stepping stone toward a new infinity ems. I wanted to figure out how their software works and get used to tuning with their equipment/software before I pulled the trigger on a $3000+ ems. Ultimately what I've learned about this company and their "outdated poroducts" is that once they've decided to move to something new, my investment falls to the back burner. Plus I get to look forward to unreasonable price hikes as a means to make it less reasonable to work with their older products. If you plan on going my route to get your feet wet learning how to work with this kind of equipment, I'd recoccomend checking out haltech or fueltech or a chipset meant to go in your stock ecu. Basically anyone other than aem for stand alone/tuning. Unfortunately I will be investing in hondata for the time being as at least I know what to expect from them and the parts to run it aren't gonna skyrocket on me unless there's a legit reason like cost of materials. The lack of support for their old product tells me they don't take much pride in their products. Support shouldn't be only for people that bought the hottest newest products. It should cover all of them. Expect your new product to hit this list in the next 10-15 years as they make newer hotter stuff and stop caring about what you paid. As previously stated, they didn't even bother to ask how I got this. For all they know I purchased it in 2000 at full price from one of their dealers. Fueltech, I'll be in touch as soon as I have the money for a new stand-alone!! Hondata, giving you a go for the time being!
