I was contacted via phone by a courier from an unknown number regarding mail which they attempted to deliver to an old address. The woman gave me the contact number for West Asset. I spoke with a woman from the legal department regarding file#*******. She stated a very old bank which is no longer in business is attempting to issue a judgement from an account opened on June 30, ****. I advised her I have no knowledge of the debt and wish to dispute, she stated there was nothing I can do until I received the mailed package. I called back a short time after and spoke with her again because I advised her the courier stated that they had my old address. she confirmed she had my current address. After doing some research I contacted them again and spoke to the most rudest person I have ever encountered. He didnt verify my name or anything just stated he wasnt here to help me he was here to take my money. He stated there is nothing for me to fight because no judge needs to see my case and there was already a judgement against me. Mind you he didn't know my name but accused me of calling them *************************************** I called again today and recorded the conversation-the person who answered the phone offered a settlement of which I had to pay via credit card today. I asked for verification of the debt which they refused to send only a settlement letter and after telling me the prior correspondence sent was for me to appear in court, He then stated I could not fight this in court this is a settlement only but the case was in litigation. So this "collection agency" is trying to get $5000 from an account opened in **** which I never had. The bank First ******** merged with Bank One in **** and Bank One was purchased by Chase in 2007. They are clearly scammers who not 1 time provided a name for the person who answered but will repeatedly lie to gain money of which you dont owe or for a debt which is past the status of limitations. My lawyer will be contacting.
