Our son's, car was stolen on 10/1/23, and the *** found the vehicle in the middle of the night and had the car towed by Swim's Auto Repair and Towing. Since we were on vacation in *******, on 10/2/23, we called Swim's to explain that we were on vacation in ******* but could pick up the car on 10/3/23 and we wanted to find out how much to get the vehicle out of the tow lot on 10/3/23. ****'s said it would be $370. When we went to pick up the car the morning of 10/3, we were shocked that they said it would now cost $560. When we asked why it had gone up, they explained that they put a lien on the vehicle. They did not mention a lien the day before on the phone. I don't know if they are legally allowed to lien the car that soon before notifying the consumer that they are about to lien it. So since we needed our car, we had to pay the $560. This is extortion and bait and switch and should be illegal. I can understand if we didn't pick up our car right away, but we called them the morning after it was towed, and picked it up 24 hours after our phone call. I have called the *** to let them know this company is ripping consumers off in the event other consumers are also being ripped off by this company. The *** should not contract with this company anymore, and I want to warn other consumers about this predatory company.
