****. Letter requesting update of personal information, yet cannot tell me what is in MY account. Eventually person at the 1-855-phone number stated LPL is acting as middle man to the actual account. After 1.5 hours on phone, I was transferred to where my account was held because I was questioning the purpose of this company and letter received. DO NOT PROVIDE THEM WITH INFORMATION.Review from Jo F

I was assured over and over again that the account was set up as a special needs account with money my daughter's grandfather left her. My daughter has autism she is now 20 when child support ended I applied for disability. While waiting I used credit cards to survive thinking I will get back pay everything will work out. Surprise, it is a guardian account which counts as income. 2 years of me scraping by on just 1 income that I thought would end soon. What a nightmare, I hope they sleep well at night knowing the damage they have caused to me and my special needs daughter for their greed. I wish lying was against the law. Shame on them.Review from Jennifer R

In my 55 years of saving and investing for my retirement, LPL is by far the worst financial institution I've dealt with filled people who give you false and misleading information. They charge astronomical "advisory" fees. Case in point, I was charged $685 on an account I have been asking them to close/transfer to another investment company and they still are holding onto the funds stating this time that the funds my $ is invested in can only be liquidated on a quarterly prorated basis. Interesting how I'm hearing about this on the 6th inquiry about the account. When asked why I was charged an advisory fee, I was told that is up to the advisor. Is this true or false? Being nothing credible has been shared with me I find that hard to believe. I've asked to speak to a higher level of management and I'm going to submit an inquiry with *****. I will make this my pet project to get to the bottom of their lies and gangster-like money management.Review from michael k

One star is the lowest available-We had been with LPL for a little over a year when we decided to move our retirement funds (IRAs) to our credit union for investment in CDs. We were prepared to sign papers and releases and thought it would take **** business days. We were amazed the process took 3x longer and told multiple stories every time we called to check on progress. Many times these calls involved lengthy hold times and were met with rude and combative employees. Because we are retired we were able to spend days on hold to chase down information and progress. We began to feel that our money was tied up and that we may need to hire a professional assistant to release our funds back to us. This lengthy and exhaustive process was unlike any other transaction we've experienced in the past with other firms. It took a couple of days to transfer funds IN but took weeks to transfer out.If you are considering working with LPL PROCEED WITH CAUTION. Our financial advisor did make money but we did not especially given the days chasing down ours...INVESTORS BEWAREReview from Craig h

Signed up for LPL Financial through M&T bank in ********. Opened 2 accounts. 1 for each of my sons. After 10 years, it lost money from the start! My husband has been trying to close the accounts for 4 weeks. Finally, a person answered the phone and we were able to make a phone appointment to cancel the accounts. We were then told, you had to OPEN a new account to move the money into, in order to close the 2 accounts. THEN, we were told in order to close the new account, there was a fee of $160 for each child. After luckily only investing 1k for each child, (2k total), we came home with $1500, therefore, we lost 25% of our money. M&T bank was also of no support in helping with these transactions. They should not promote this company as they will start to lose business also. I am very disappointed in LPL.Review from Felicia H

We are having a problem with our fathers personal trust account. He opened the account 3/14/2008 with the mission valley firm, There has been one person that has managed the accounts for our father until last week. Our father is now deceased and we have been going over his account and had requested from the agent to provide us with how our fathers account was funded. All of sudden he has sent an email he is removing himself from the account, stating it is a business decision. That is a very generic political response. We even asked a second time, what had occurred for this decision to be made, as we were shocked and had not been in contact with his office for a very long time. Same political stance, its a business decision, which tells us nothing. In speaking with others in the industry, they also concur that the agent is very unprofessional with how he has handled this account. It is very interesting that the agent has another account in his office that is a joint trust account with our father and his wife. He has not removed himself from this account. Why? You'd think all accounts would be moved not just one account. In the past the agent has not been happy with our family asking questions regarding the accounts he has held. It appears he gets offended and does not like to be asked questions or to be challenged with questions we have or maybe something is being hidden? .This is very disturbing and unprofessional for him to have referred us to the corporate office to take care of the account going forward. Once we asked for information on our dads separate trust account, he decided to remove himself. He needs to remove himself from the joint account also. We have asked to close the account and since the account was moved we now have to complete a 6 page form and it appears will take about 3-4 weeks for the funds to be released, when the agent could have taken care of this for us. So unprofessional.Review from Stephen B

The only reason I gave this company one star is because a negative 5 stars wasn't available. What a nightmare! The big stall is still firmly in place. I've been trying to move money from my father's estate for three weeks with no end in sight. The "quality control" officer won't respond to my concerns.
