I applied for the Barton **************** financial assistance program to request financial assistance for a balance of $274. I submitted the application on July 27, 2023. The last message I received from them was on September 7th, 2023 that they received all documentation required to complete my application. I never received any more information until finding that the balance of $274 has gone into collections. The financial assistance department of this company has inadequately handled this situation.Initial Complaint

I had to receive emergency healthcare on January 22,2023. I slipped on ice and fell. I was billed but did not realize I would be and when I told themto send the bill to the VA, the VA did not pay it because this is consiered a walk in clinic, not an emergency room. I thought it was an emergency room. I called a number to speak with their financial aid department about getting assistance with this bill, I am a 100% disabled veteran; no one answered and I left a message. I then spoke with the billing department and agreed to pay them ***** per month until I was able to fill out a financial aid form. I did that and never received a response from the financial aid department. I subsequently left 2 more messages and still have not heard. They just sent this to a collection agency. without even giving me an opportunity to apply for their financial aid assistance. Also, I still have not contacted advocate services the VA which I had intended to do if I ws denied financial aid through Barton. I feel that this bill should be paid by the hospital or the VA.Business response

After review of the account it is important to note that while the visit was not an emergency room visit, it was an urgent care and therefor notification should have been made to the VA. Since notification was not made at the time of service, the balance of this account has been written off. The account is now a zero balance. The patient's payment will be refunded.Customer response
