Visited their imaging center in Moorpark with an order for CT scan and provided my insurance card. Asked them to provide me estimate of my responsibility. 6 weeks and no estimate. Called a few times. Went in for the service and asked if I could know my responsibility before having it done. The office said yes and in fact if I paid now they could discount by 20%. She provided estimate of $700.00. I agreed to move forward with service and pay now with 20% discount which I paid $583.48. Two weeks later I receive a bill from Los Robles stating that I still owe an additional $450.65. This means the actual charge for the procedure was 41% higher than the amount estimated and paid by me upfront. This is not acceptable business practice to tell a customer the price is nearly half of what it really is when you have the procedure code and the insurance upfront. Los Robles claims this is the insurance fault or my fault because everything is just an estimate and the estimate doesn't have to be within any thresholds. How are consumers to make decisions on their health care when not given realistic estimates?Initial Complaint

This letter is to formally inform you that the bill you gave me for treatment in your hospital on November 30, 2020 is inaccurate. As a result, I am writing to dispute account number *********. I have tried countless times to connect with someone over the phone to better understand the charges and also dispute certain charges. To date, I have received the same breakdown of charges via USPS without any support on breaking the charges down. I received treatment for severe stomach pain. The doctor believed that it could be my gallbladder and wanted to run a test to confirm if it was the gallbladder. He said that if it was the gallbladder, they would have to admit me for surgery. It was determined that it wasn’t my gallbladder, and I was sent home without further treatment. The bill that was provided to me has charges consistent with being admitted into the hospital. It is important to note that I was also charged for room and board as part of supposedly being admitted, but I was never placed in a room. I sat in the waiting room for the entirety of my visit at Los Robles Hospital, and only left the waiting room for staff to run tests. This information can be confirmed by your waiting room RN, Patrick Green, as him and I engaged in conversation at several points throughout the day. Since my visit last year, I have sought out care elsewhere as I have lost complete trust in Los Robles Hospital. It has been a very disheartening process to try and work through this bill. What was billed and recorded is highly unethical. I went to Simi Valley Hospital 6 months later with the same symptoms and same care and the difference in billing is alarming.
