On 04/18/2022 We entered into a contract with Pinnacle Builders, Inc. a general contractor, to finish our basement. The contract called for an initial payment of $16000, $15000 at midpoint, and a remainder of $12743 on completion. Framing began in mid-May. When framing was complete, Pinnacle owner asked for the second payment which we promptly provided. The check was cashed on June 10. Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work then began. On 8/11 a city inspector came and approved the electrical, but called the plumbing and HVAC amateurish and said he did not believe that the plumbing and HVAC could possibly have been done by anyone licensed. The Inspector pointed out that the venting arrangements would not function, and the plumbing was not only not to code, but also used fittings meant for irrigation and not approved for drain/waste systems. After we sent the inspection report to Pinnacle owner, he stated that they would get everything taken care of right away. Since then, no work has been done, and the only worker we have seen was only here to reclaim some of his tools. we have tried repeatedly to get any communication with Pinnacle owner, to no response. We finally talked to Pinnacle owner on September 6, and they said that they could not finish the project and would be returning some money in 48 hours. We indicated that we would consider refund of our entire second payment acceptable. We have not seen or heard anything since then, and have received no response to messages asking where our money is. We have since had multiple estimates of the cost to correct the plumbing and HVAC deficiencies which came in at $6649 and up. While one contractor was investigating the work he also found many deficiencies in the electrical that the city inspector missed, which also need corrected. Thus, we have received basically nothing for our second payment. We request refund of that second payment in the amount of $15000.
