I am writing Aberdeen Enterprises, Inc., doing business as Platte River Roofing. In July 2021, I contracted with Aberdeen Enterprises, Inc./ Platte River Roofing to reroof my house, install new gutters and downspouts, and replace some fascia and trim that needed replaced. Problems with their work were immediately apparent (the following is not a complete list): • Three of the five downspouts did not drain water away from the foundation. The front, center downspout extension crosses the front walk at shin height. The gutters sag and leak at the same places they did before, places I pointed out to them more than once. • The trim and fascia was not completely painted or sealed. Some of the trim pieces were cut too short. (That’s not all of the problems; it was clearly poor work.) • The garage and attic were filled with shingling debris (not large pieces, but coarse and fine grit, splinters, and shards of wood strewn everywhere) from decking holes and shingles that were cut for the vents. (If I had been warned about this, I could have moved stuff out of the garage and covered everything else, but I was not warned.) • They killed a number of roses and saplings. • They broke tree branches and simply left them hanging. I had a private inspector, another contractor, and ServiceMaster look at Platte River Roofing’s work and give me more information on what needed to be fixed and how, plus estimates. The inspector and contractor agreed that the work was poor, that all the trim and fascia needed be redone, and that at least the front, center downspout had to be moved. I took lots of pictures and inspected the work myself. On October 1, the roof failed inspection. The correct shingles were not installed at the edges of the roof and at the ends of the roof ridges. Aberdeen Enterprises refused, in the end, to repair any of their work and reduced the invoice by only $1000. [I have more info but ran out of room.]Business response

Platte River Roofing completed its work on 7/28/21. On 8/13/21 we received an email from Ms. ******* that there were a few issues that we needed to address. We called the next day, 8/14/21 to arrange a time to come to her property to inspect and devise a plan to make any necessary repairs. Unfortunately we had to leave a voicemail. We proceeded over the next two months to leave voicemails and communicate via email with Ms. *******. We sent emails on 8/14/21, 8/17/21, 8/20/21, 8/24/21, 9/2/21 and 9/6/21 all with the attempt to rectify the complaints that Ms. ******* had. We also left multiple voicemails for Ms. ******* over the preceding month. Ms. ******* repeatedly refused to allow us access to the property to view the issues and in one email threatened to contact the city and the police department if we attempted to come by to inspect the property. Upon her initial email, we immediately took responsibility for the situation because that is how we do business, but there was literally no way to verify her concerns without inspecting the premises. We were at a stalemate. We wanted to devise a solution for Ms. ******* but she refused to cooperate all the while complaining about issues that we were not allowed to inspect. Finally on 10/11/21 we were contacted by Ms. *******s attorney and they were demanding to pay a substantially lower amount than the contracted amount. This was unacceptable to us because we were never allowed to remedy the situation over the past two months. After a couple of rounds of contact with her attorney we agreed to reduce our fee by $1,000 and this was agreed to by Ms. ******* and her attorney. Ms. ******* paid her invoice in full, minus the $1,000 reduction and as part of this agreement we agreed to no longer contact her or attempt to complete any repairs. We have been in business in the Denver area since 2009 and have a 4.8 star rating via Google. Our work and reputation speak for themselves and the large majority of our business comes from referrals and past customers. We made every possible attempt to resolve this issue with Ms.******* but were rebuffed at every attempt. At this point per our agreement with her attorney and Ms. *******, the matter is closed.Customer response

On September 22, 2021, a representative of Aberdeen Enterprises/Platte River Roofing *did* inspect the work they’d done and the issues I’d found so far. But it took more time for me to finish getting estimates on what it would cost to have someone else fix the problems Platte River Roofing left behind.
The owner of Aberdeen Enterprises/Platte River Roofing seemed to want to fix only the roof (not the rest of the work). He offered a completely unsatisfactory method of cleaning up the debris in my garage. He would not provide me with a complete and specific list of repairs they would perform. And he offered very little compensation for the damage to my roses and trees and the garage cleanup.
His sales manager claimed they had not installed any roof vents, so the shingling debris in my garage and attic could not be from any vent installation. However, both photos and their own work estimate show they did install roof vents. The owner then claimed that the debris had come from my rafters, not the roofing work, and claimed that I knew the debris had come from my rafters. This is a fabrication.
Through my lawyer, I offered the owner of Aberdeen Enterprises/Platte River Roofing what I considered a fair compromise: to have his company finish the roofing work so that it would pass inspection; provide me with the most basic parts I would need to fix the front, center downspout placement; and reduce the invoice by enough for me to hire someone else to redo their trim and fascia work and compensate me a little bit for the damage they’d done and the time I’d lost.
He refused.
Through my lawyer, I sent the owner of Aberdeen Enterprises/Platte River Roofing a detailed list of the work that needed to be done to finish the roof; fix the fascia and trim work; and fix the front, center downspout. The list was specific but accurate and reflected a basic level of workmanship. I offered to pay the full invoice if his company would do the minimum needed to fix the worst of their work.
On October 21, 2021, he again refused. In fact, he refused to do any more work and demanded payment (minus only $1,000). He (again) threatened to put a lien on my property if I did not pay.
The owner of Aberdeen Enterprises/Platte River Roofing has claimed, many times, that his company has a 12-year history of excellent work. However, based on state records, Aberdeen Enterprises, Inc., was formed just over 3 years ago. It seems they bought the Platte River Roofing name about 3 years ago as well. (Platte River Roofing has at least two previous owners recorded by the state.) The owner also has claimed that they have done thousands of roofs in the area. However, I have checked with a few of the larger municipalities in the area, and I have found fewer than 50 permits for Aberdeen Enterprises or Platte River Roofing in the past 3+ years.
