I have a car loan through Power Credit Union and from the beginning they have been difficult to deal with, unorganized, and they never should have given as much money as they did towards this loan in the first place. But I was naive and they took advantage of that. I was supposed to pay off my loan this May and in February I noticed my account balance was over $3000 and there was no way I would be able to pay that off with my $294.10 monthly payments so I called to ask why my account balance was so high. The person I spoke with claimed she "wasn't sure why it was so high as her records also reflected I was to pay it off in May" and she would have someone call me back. Several weeks went by and I heard nothing so I called again and there was no update but someone was "working on it" then over a month later I was finally told that it was due to an insurance policy they had applied to my account so I had to supply them with proof of insurance which I did. Then I called back again asking if the charges had been removed and the claimed because everyone was short staffed they couldn't remove it quickly. Then they sent me a letter stating they would be adding additional insurance again so I provided more policy information. Finally, April 28th I called to get my account balance so I could make my final payment and I was informed that my balance was still high and I received information that this was due to late payments and the insurance. This was the first time during my entire loan that anyone had mentioned late fees being applied to my loan, so I explained to them that I would like all the information in regards to my loan to dispute the charges and now they are attempting to tack on additional "late fees" because it is the end of my loan and they are requiring payment in full. I feel as though they deliberately withheld information from me when I inquired back in February to back me in a corner and make it impossible for me to dispute the charges on my account.
