We closed on our home on July 30,2021. House was built in 2019. People who lived here before us did not stay in house due to wife passing. My husband went into the attic to put Xmas decorations away and notice huge wet spots writhing the roof and BLACK mold. Builder did not respond quick so I had another roofing company come out to figure our what was going on. The shingles themselves are fine and it was determined for whatever reason there was too much moisture in the attic. Back half of roof is in salvageable and needs to be replaced to the tune of $5700. Also said that highly insufficient 4ft ridge vent on house cause attic not to be ventilated properly. Another concern was insulation shoved in soffits which again are meant to provide ventilation. But we were told to have ******** ** come out and inspect insulation and what not to determine how moisture is building up in the attic. By this time the builder (Naugatuck construction) has gotten back to me and agrees to send his guy out 4 days later. Even his employee was baffled the house is THREE YEARS OLD! Naugatuck construction got back to me stating that we’d have to pay for materials to fix the roof and they’d do labor for free. I said okay but then he gave run around about finding materials etc. Next we had an havac professional come out to look over situation because we do not want this to happen again with new roof. It took him l5 minutes to find problem. He pulled up insulation and the bathroom fan is vented directly into attic. No pipe attached to fan housing. Housing stuffed with fiberglass insulation. Not sure how any building inspector did not catch this. But it all comes down to bad craftsmanship on the builders end. Which resulted in an attic full of black mold causing non stop health issues for my children. My house is three years old filled with mold due to negligence on behalf of the builder. He has put my children in danger due to faulty down right dangerous work.

This is in regards to the house Naugatuck Construction built in 2019, at the address of *** ****** ****** *** ****** *****. We sold this house to **** ****** on June 7th 2019. We had the town of ****** ***** do a rough inspection and a final inspection of the property prior to selling it. Mr. ****** had the bank inspect the property prior to buying it. In 2021, Mr. ****** sold the house to ******** ******* and she had it inspected as well. There was now 4 inspections prior to Mrs. ******* bringing the issue she had found to my attention. Mrs. ******* called my office to report the problem she had found and we sent someone over a week after her call to do an inspection. Per our knowledge we thought her issue was condensation build up in the attic of the back roof. We had offered Mrs. ******* a replacement for the back portion of the roof but she did not accept and brought in another company to inspect the area. They found a vent pipe leading to the attic from the bathroom. The last time we heard from Mrs. ******* was a phone call in which she stated “soon you’ll hear from me, It’s illegal what you guys did”.  There was no other contact after the matter until we received a complaint letter dated 2/24/22. Please respond as soon as you can so we may deal with this issue and get it resolved.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I would like to know what home inspector rips up insulation during an inspection. Pretty sure none. There was no way of anyone to see that until pulling insulation up over fan housing and stuffed into fan housing. I did reject their offer because what the contractor is failing to mention is that he wanted us to pay for material. He was smug and rude and did not get back to us in a timely manner. My child has asthma so I apologize that I was overly concerned about BLACK MOLD caused by negligence of your company. I could of understood if a clamp came loose but there was no piping at all! It was the fan housing stuffed with insulation. Your subcontractor  came out and inspected it and couldn’t believe it either. You did not care about the health of my child yet wanted me to give you money?

      Sincerely,

      ******** *******
