I am writing to file a formal complaint against Mighty Muffler due to their failure to repair an oil leak on my car and their refusal to rectify the problem. The purpose of this complaint is to seek your intervention in resolving this matter fairly and effectively. In July 2023, I took my vehicle to the aforementioned auto mechanic with the specific request to fix a persistent oil leak. At this time, Mighty Muffler informed me that it was a big repair and I had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment before they could complete the repair. I scheduled the repair for 7/31/2023 and borrowed a family member’s car for transportation until the repairs could be completed. On Monday, 7/31/2023 at 3:14 P.M., I drove past Mighty Muffler and noticed my vehicle was sitting outside the shop. I called to check the status of the repair and they told me that it was an all day repair and they probably wouldn’t have it done until the end of the week. I asked why I had waited 3 weeks for this appointment and the work wasn’t being completed at the scheduled appointment time. They explained that they were down a mechanic and running a day behind. On Tuesday, 8/1/2023 at 5:13 P.M., I received the phone call from Mighty Muffler to let me know that there was another part to the seal that needed to be repaired and that the repairs should be complete by 8/2/2023 around noon. On Wednesday, 8/2/2023 at 12:18 P.M., I received a phone call from Mighty Muffler stating that the repairs were completed. On Wednesday, 8/2/2023 at 4:22 P.M., I called to inform Mighty Muffler that I was picking my vehicle up and wanted to verify that the Snap Financing application went through. The receptionist stated that the application had not gone through. I did a 3 way call with my fiancé and I, so the receptionist could obtain the correct information for the snap finance application. On Wednesday, 8/2/2023 around 5:15, I signed the Snap application paperwork prepared by Mighty Muffler’s receptionist and picked my vehicle up. I pointed out that there were drops of oil coming from the vehicle. The man at the counter assured me that they had addressed and resolved the problem. He further explained that because of the type of repair completed and cleaning out the oil, a few drops of oil would be normal for the next few days. I trusted their expertise and paid the agreed-upon fee of $1,157.94 for the repair services via Snap Finance. Unfortunately, upon receiving my vehicle back, I would later notice that the oil leak was worse than before the repairs were completed, indicating that the mechanic had not resolved the issue as promised. On Thursday morning, 8/3/2023 I walked outside to find puddle of oil under my vehicle I immediately contacted Mighty Muffler and informed them about the recurring problem. The invoice from Mighty Muffler states “rear main seal repair looks fine at this time-no leaks found. Multiple other small leaks are present but not a safety concern at this time.” On Monday, 8/7/2023, the leak was even worse, photos are attached. I returned my vehicle to Mighty Muffler again for the oil leak. At this time, I was presented with another estimate to repair “another” oil leak in the amount of $1,443.26. The estimate states “Oil pan &/or gasket- Remove and Replace- V6,FWD Upper,Ladder Frame.” I was shocked that I had received such a high estimate for a repair that I had just paid $1,157.94 to have fixed. The company representative asserted that they had done their best and denied any further responsibility for the repair. I dropped my vehicle to another mechanic for a second opinion on 8/11/2023. I received the second opinion, which contradicts Mighty Mufflers paperwork on 8/2/2023 stating “Rear main seal repair looks fine at this time-no leaks found.” Not only is it leaking in the same area Mighty Muffler repaired but they may have done additional damage to the area around this seal- we won’t know officially until they drop the transmission. Snap Finance and I have been in contact with Mighty Muffler several other times since, they have refused to make any repairs without additional payment. This response left me greatly dissatisfied, as it is unreasonable and unethical for an auto mechanic to charge for repairs they claim to have performed when such repairs were either inadequate or not done at all. As a customer, I have the reasonable expectation that when I pay for a service, I receive competent and effective workmanship. In this case, the auto mechanic has failed to meet this expectation by not genuinely addressing the oil leak issue, leaving me with a still malfunctioning vehicle. Considering my disappointment Mighty Mufflers refusal to fix the problem or provide any form of appropriate compensation, I believe it is necessary to bring my complaint to your attention in the hopes of resolving this matter. Therefore, I kindly request that the Better Business Bureau intervene and mediate the situation with Mighty Muffler. My desired outcome is for the auto mechanic to provide a full refund for the initial repair fee. I have lost confidence in Mighty Mufflers ability to properly diagnose and repair my vehicle. I have enclosed copies of all relevant documentation, including receipts, invoices, and correspondence related to this matter, for your review and records. Thank you for your prompt attention to this complaint. I trust that the Better Business Bureau's involvement will ensure a fair and satisfactory resolution. Your assistance in resolving this dispute is greatly appreciated.
