I, ************************** and my wife, **************************************** hired ******************************* doing business as U.S.A Caribbean Awnings to build a pergola awning at our home located at ********************************************************** for the amount of $28,000.00.On May 5th, 2023 we gave ******************************* a deposit of $9,000.00 for a job he quoted us for $28,000.00.We canceled the job on November 6th 2023 We canceled the job after finding out he was not going to pull permits and he was encouraging us to do the job without permits due to the cost would be very high.We have contacted him several times via text and phone calls to get our deposit back and all he does is give us the run around and makes up excuses.On December 5th, 2023 he gave us a check for a partial refund to our deposit of $4,000.00 and told us that he has some jobs coming up so he could get the rest of the money to return to us, said within two weeks.Today January 20th **** we called him to request the remaining $5,000.00, if not we would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and take legal action. He continues to make excuses and told us we need to contact the company he purchased the materials from and deal with them to get the remaining deposit amount. Unacceptable!We have been very patient with *********************************** and as a small business owner ourselves, we understand he may have used our deposit as running capital for other jobs. We patiently waited for over a month when he promised within two weeks he would give us the remaining deposit monies. We have run out of patience and will be filing a suit in small claims court.Customer response

I wish to close this complaint (Complaint ID: ********* the merchant has refunded us $4,500.00 and kept $500.00 for his time spent with us. This is acceptable and we would like to close the complaint.
