I hired John W*** from John's Handyman Rentals on August 3, 2021 to repair rotted wood under bathtub. After paying them $2600 ($1200 for tub, $1400 for other) for repairs it seemed fine for a few months, but then the tub started coming loose again. I tried to contact them via phone, text, and email with no response. I had other contractors over to inspect and they said that no work was done at all. They pulled the panel and the same rotted wood was still in there with nothing repaired. There was a weight from my weight lifting set shoved in there with a piece of wood propped up on it. I had to pay someone else to perform the job correctly. There is no excuse for a professional to take someone's money like that.

      Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2022/03/14) */ This job was more then a tube repair and was done right as asked by the customer but he was told that the tube needed to be replaced and the sub flooring redone he asked for the tube just to not move we put braces under the tube and new wood in place to hold the tube in place This is why the customer is saying it was fine for a few months after the fix was done The customer was also let know that the under water lines should be replaced at some time The customer was showed all the work before the last payment and was happy with it said he would call back if was going to do the bathroom and that he was happy with all the work to include the drywall that was done in the outside room The company has been closed down do to COVID Consumer Response /* (3000, 12, 2022/03/15) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) There was nothing done and no wood was replaced. I had several estimates that also noticed that nothing was done except a 10lb weight from my weight set was wedged in with a board not even screwed in. I had it repaired correctly by another contractor and spent $800 and that included fixing the leak as well. $2600 spent with John W*** is ridiculous. All that was repaired was drywall that was not even necessary. He said that the room would collapse if not repaired, but other contractors were here and said that was not true. Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2022/03/16) */ I do not believe this customer is going to take any responsibility and is going to keeping trying to say he said she said that job that was asked was done and the pay was not given till the customer was happy with the work the company I had takes part upfront and the rest up on completion of the job when the customer is satisfied with the job At the end of the job being do the customer was showed what was done even asked if we could check so piping that was in side of the Master closet then said thank you and paid that last of the bill We where also asked not to use names in this and the bbb said that would be taken out as I see it was not Consumer Response /* (4200, 16, 2022/03/17) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The bottom line is that nothing was done to secure the tub. It was a temporary hack job which came loose after a few short months. I reached out by text, email, and phone and no response. I then had to call other contractors to come out and look. All of them noticed that no wood was replaced and was given estimates which ranged from $500 to $1500 to repair it correctly. I asked in another email to refund me at least the cost of the new and permanent repair, but still no response. At the very least they could have tried to come to a resolution when I first reached out to them. The correct response would have been to at least come take a look and try to resolve the matter, not ignore it.
