Legacy Roofing Jon Number **** Last night after a severe rainstorm in Titusville we discovered water damage in the Den that appears to be coming from the roof which leaked through the ceiling and traveled down the wall next to the window. There has never been any leaks into the house from the roof prior to the installation of the “new” roof completed on 4/14/2023. (please see pictures attached) On March 30, 2023 my husband **** ***** and I (**** *****) contracted with Legacy Roofing to replace our roof at the cost of roughly $11,300 which was paid in full by our daughter and son. The work started on 4/11/2023 and was completed on 4/14/2023 at which time we went outside to look at the work. The siding was chipped in some places (I was told by the customer contact via text msg that this was likely due to the age of the siding and deterioration over the years). I was not provided with pictures of damaged siding from Legacy Roofing prior to the start of the job. We were offered a credit of$350.00 which we accepted. Clearly upon further inspection and as communicated in the text message and pictures sent to Legacy Roofing on 4/26/2023 there are deficiencies in the overall workmanship. At no time prior to the Roofs completion on 4/14/2023 did anyone from Legacy Roofing inform us of any issues with the siding that would negatively impact the installation of the new roof. However once the roof was completed there was noticeable damage to the siding which we inquired about on 4/14 at that point we were provided with one picture which appears to have been taken during the early stages of the removal of the old roof. If the roof was examined to prior providing a quote why weren't any siding issues discovered and communicated accordingly to my husband, myself or my daughter as I had no way of knowing about siding issues that may have negatively impacted the installation of the roof. The information that follows was sent to Legacy via text message on 4/26/2023. At the time we did not realize the Principal owner and Customer contact at Legacy Roofing SRQ are Jahaziel G***** and Samuel G***** we neglected to mention them specifically in the text. While having a cousin assess the wood siding repairs, what he reported back regarding the actual roofing workmanship has us very concerned. He mentioned the step flashing is rusted beyond expectancy and further down there’s an area where water would infiltrate the roof at the corner when it exits the roof. He questioned why Legacy Roofing did not notify us of their contractual obligation to replace the deficient step flashing and bill us accordingly as proceeding with the roof without replacing step flashing that’s beyond expectancy is in direct breach of the verbiage in the contract. If someone took the liberty to take the one picture of the siding that we didn’t receive until after the work was completed, I’m inclined to believe that they took several pictures of the roof and noticed or should have noticed the step flashing was an issue as this is within their scope of knowledge. It’s evident that the roofers were pulling shingles off the flashing on the roof deck because by code, they were required to nail it back, but apparently choose not to replace the flashing and also not tell us about it. This would indicate willful knowledge of the deficient flashing. We’re very disappointed in the workmanship and feel the $11k investment that our son and daughter made to protect our health and home should yield a quality product, not an inferior product. I hope that this experience isn’t indicative of how Legacy Roofing treats their elderly customers. At this point, we are requesting that Legacy Roofing has someone come back to the site to QC the actual work done. There couldn’t have been any real internal QC completed. We would like the opportunity to resolve this amicably and allow Legacy Roofing to provide a product that they can stand behind and frankly, under which we can safely live. Business response

I understand the frustration the customer must have experienced with having a leak occur right after they had their roof replaced. We were unaware of the BBB complaint - if you look at the record of correspondence between us and the Homeowner - we have answered and addressed their concerns each time any has arisen. Legacy Roofing SRQ can't be responsible for how the homeowner chooses to maintain their own property before the roofing project (i.e. siding condition) that can cause issues after the new roof installation.

I agree that there could have been better communication from our Production team to the homeowner regarding the siding issues. The roof quote is generated based off of Satellite measurements - and photos at the point of sale were gathered from a drone. The preconstruction photos are exactly for the purpose of documenting a customer's home condition prior to work beginning.

Legacy roofing never attempted to complete any siding repairs here - we replaced the roof per contract. I would ask if the cousin who "inspected" the workmanship is a licensed roofer. Legacy Roofing did perform flashing replacement as needed - the areas where the flashing was truly damaged and required replacement were replaced with a 2-course L and counter flashing. Photo is listed above. You can see based on the photos that as the flashing work was done there - the water has no where to get in at the flashing, goes beneath the gutter line into the open holes in the rotted siding on the home.

If there was deficient flashing on this roof that would have needed to be replaced - would the roof not have failed inspection? This roof passed both dry-in (which is underlayment and all flashings including edge metal and L flashing) and final inspections from the municipality. I find it hard to believe that someone who is not a licensed roofer, nor a building inspector for the municipality to be able to determine whether the flashing is damaged. The terms of the contract with Legacy Roofing SRQ state that any flashing work is not included in the scope of work and is extra - and we replace on an as needed basis to save our customers money, as well as make sure that we are protecting the home.

The 11k investment that the Smiths sona nd daughter made to protect their health and home does yield in a quality roof product - and it is backed by Legacy Roofing SRQ's Labor Warranty.

Since the time of this complaint we have been out to the property twice and addressed the issues and presented the discoveries made during our quality assurance work.

Please reach out to me with any questions at any time.
