On 3/27/2024 I hired BKW ************************** to build a bathroom in my basement. I noticed soon after they started that they were not building the bathroom to code and the work would not pass inspection. They proceeded to strong arm me for more money to make the modifications just to make the bathroom complaint with building codes. When I was questioning the owner of the business about part of the project, he yelled profanities at me and became extremely verbally abusive, sayingFk this! Pack it up! This is why I dont like working for black people, and What she doesnt understand is, I already have her money. Ill just go home. He also stated, **** better stay away from me in a threatening manner. I have all of this on video, from the Ring Cameras around my home. I asked the project manager to end the relationship then and give me just some of my money back, but she stated they would not return any of my money to me. In order not to lose all my money, I tried to go forward with the project under the condition that the Project Manager would come with them every day they are on the site, as she said she would. But she did not show up, and then the next day they came to work they brought an enormous dog with them, keeping my out of the area for fear of my life.I asked again to settle for just $5000 of my money back, and they asked to come and pick up all of their equipment. I allowed them too. They left. Now they still will not refund any of my money. Very little of the work is complete and I am terrified to have that man in my home after the way he has been verbally abusive to me. He feels that I dont have the right, as a black woman, to question his substandard work. He is now trying to make the situation impossible for me, so that he can get away with stealing my money.

      Business response

      04/19/2024

I am writing in response to the complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau regarding our recent project together. We value the opportunity to provide our perspective on the matter.

Throughout the project, we made significant efforts to adapt to her changing combative requirements and deliver quality work in compliance with Georgia building codes. However, we must address the challenges and behaviors that surfaced during our collaboration.

We acknowledge the adjustments made to the scope of work and the complexities encountered, such as the decision to focus on the two bathrooms instead of the kitchen and dining room. Despite our best attempts to meet your requests, the project faced several hurdles and misunderstandings.

************ neglected to include the upstairs bathroom we completed for her. Prior to us completing this project two other contractors walked away leaving it unfinished. We came in and repaired her subfloor, installed custom tile, custom toilet, and sink. She had our contractor move the sink 1 inch 5 times in the same direction. To say this client is extremely indecisive is an understatement.

Regarding the interactions and communications during the project, any perceived hostilities were not our intention. Our team always aims to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor in all client interactions. The conversation she recorded was between two contractors and was not an interaction with her and the contractor.

In response to the incidents, She mentioned concerning our pet and property security, ensuring safety is a top priority for us, and we strive to create a secure working environment for all parties involved. One of the contractors was leaving to go home after his day's work,he asked if it would be ok to leave his caged small dog in the backyard. *********** approved. She refused to share on more than one occasion ************ refused to cage her Pitbull mix dog. Causing our contractors to run. When asked to put her do away *********** replied, "she lives here". ************ started this project from the very beginning with the intent not to pay us fully for the work we were completing. She was made aware verbally, via text and contractually of the nonrefundable deposit policy. We have several emails and texts trying to help her. She has been extremely offensive from day one. *********** has a personal vetitive against black men and black businesses. We met several contractors working near her home, and they warned us we would have this problem with her.

We completed more than what she outlined in her complaint and the amount received was not enough.  It was her request to end the project. We are just as afraid of her. She is extremely unreasonable. We videoed tape her watching us work daily. It was a very uncomfortable and hostile environment.

Although our business relationship has concluded,we appreciate your feedback and take all client concerns seriously. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

I purchased my new home in July hired contractors in August. The work is still incomplete. There were 2 walk throughs and I requested 2 walls to be removed, 1 in the basement and 1 in the kitchen. The basement wall was taken down then built back because it was the main support although it was stated not to be in the walk throughs. The kitchen wall is not completed it was left in a dangerous condition. My bathrooms are also left in a very unsafe conditions. Shower floors are deteriorating with each use. None of the home was left in a clean manner. I have paid a total of $70,200.00. I have kitchen cabinets that were paid in full not installed or in my possession. I was told to pick them up myself but no receipt and no address was given in order to do so. No kitchen sink or cabinets installed and they demanded full payment. I am left in a position that requires a new contractor to complete my home repair.
