Rivich Auctions is an online auction house with an app to bid on vintage/used household items. To sign up, customers are required to put in payment information, shipping address, etc. I placed a bid today and won (6/16). The price stated $550 - a bit steep for what I was purchasing but I wanted the item so I convinced myself that $550 all in was doable. When I received the "receipt" from the Rivich Auctions shortly after the auction ended it was for the total amount of $759.79! a 38% increase in total over the previously stated amount! I promptly asked them where these totally random fees came from and they pointed me to the "terms and conditions" when registering - which is a completely hidden text where in the middle of a paragraph the added fees are mentioned. They are not called out, in bold text, or mentioned a single other place during the entire process. The terms and conditions are not ever shown (unless manually clicked) and they are not required to be opened. This is an extremely misleading business practice where customers have no idea what the total amount will be until after they are already charged and it is too late. The total invoice of $759.79 does not include shipping (another thing not mentioned anywhere aside from the terms and conditions) so the total amount will end up being more than DOUBLE the original agreed upon price. I ask that Rivich Auctions refunds my order and changes their business practices to be ethical, fair, and transparent - always letting customers know how much of their money they will take BEFORE taking it.
