      1. The siding installed on the side of my house does not match. Steiner services used old left over siding because they failed to order enough for the project (although there are still four new pieces they simply missed). Their quote stated they would provide new siding and install it which was not done per the contract. 2. There was a blowout when the poured foundation was installed. The outside was supposed to be fixed or "parged" and 7 months later, it has not been fixed. There are other various issues that are now costing me $2200 to fix as I have had to hire new contractors to come in and finish the work. The other issues include a window in the new bedroom that sticks and is a fire hazard, and various ceiling defects including a ceiling fan that needs to be replaced after Steiner Services removed it and reinstalled it incorrectly and a second ceiling fan that was installed with the ceiling up to it, instead of removing the ceiling fan and then putting it back in place after the ceiling was completed.

There are lots of truths in the complaint along with a lot of stretched things. We as a company try to please our costumers in every aspect of the job. I will try to reposed to each section of his complaint to help you better understand. I would like to state as a company we don’t offer warranty on an my work completed.

The siding discussed as “not matching and used” was siding that was just dirty. We had to wait a few months to get it on due to custom ordered windows that took 5 months to get in. The customer was offered the option to have us pressure wash dirty siding for free, they turned down the offer.

The tongue and groove board was installed in all areas of the house, issues were not relayed to me until 2 months later, solutions were offered to remedy the issue. This solutions were turned down and I was told I was “not wanted back in the house”

The trim and tiles discussed in the complaint, was never brought to my attention by the customer at any point of the project.

The staples discussed are my fault and should not have been left that way, We all make mistakes, that being said it was never brought to my attention during the duration of the project.

The spots on the trim they discussed not being painted were the top lip of the top casing of the door, where we as a company don’t paint as you would need to be 7’ tall to even see. (We compare it to tiling underneath a vanity…)

The ceiling boards in the bedroom were ran into the fan and trimmed out Correctly. removing or not removing is a presence on the installer and has no consequences short or long term.

The fan in the master bedroom was tested after reinstallation and was working correctly.

The shorter board in the one room were installed and then fixed so we are not sure why that is still and issue being brought up.

The internet cable was ran in a new position and was trimmed out correctly. That being said, it was an added part of the project, not in the original quote and was done out of the goodness of my heart.

The siding was left in a stack in the yard for a few months due to the delay in special order windows. The customer had okayed the area they were left in, which was part of the bare part of the yard from the excavation work that was completed. This no grass was killed and the area was not re seeded till the project was completed.

The soffits were left open in a small area to provide room for the electrician to install boxes for security cameras/lights. The lights were special ordered and when they did come in that portion was completed asap after necessary electrical was in place for fixtures.

Electrical outlets and switch covers were reinstalled after the paneling was installed and all were good tight covering. Any issues of the outlets was a preference as they were done correctly.

For the window in the added bedroom, was installed with the correct techniques I was notified about the fogging issue before completing the siding on the exterior and told them to wait and see what happens after siding was done. I was never notified about the condensation issue after siding was installed. As far as the window sticking, I told them I could check it out and before I could get there, I was told he had fixed it and it was remedied.

The foundation was done by a Subcontractor in the area and had an unfortunate blow out at the time of pour, which resulted in a thicker foundation than normal, the customer had no issues with the result and was not charged extra for twice as much concrete being used. The skim coating was to be completed this spring and the customer was in contact with the Sub-contractor to complete that portion as I was told not to be in contact with the customer any more.

The udder dis-respect and unprofessional behavior started from the customer after the special order window took 5 months to get in. We had the original windows on site when the customer had decided he wanted them changed. From the frustration on the special order came all the disgruntled problems came to light. Me and my company was belittled, cussed at, and had immature bashes towards us. Things such as “I run multimillion dollar company” and “my grandma could do better work” are not mature ways to communicate, seem to be a way to power trip me, and wont be tolerated by my company.

All complaints mentioned that were brought to my attention during the project were addressed, multiple solutions were given. I had offered to come fix any issues, and also gave the option of a refund to cover the issues, both of which were rejected and was not given a chance to remedy any issue.

      Customer response

      07/10/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

Let's start with the "we don't offer a warranty" comment. The issues of a warranty were first stated to me by ***** Steiner when I tried to open the new bedroom window after it was finally warm outside. I also have all of the text messages that led to me absolutely losing my cool with Aaron.

      1. The ceilings. ***** slapped a bunch of caulking on the ceiling. I provided photos of the caulking. It was an absolute mess and both my wife and I believed he was going to come back once it had hardened to sand it down and make it match the rest of the ceiling. This was an absolute reasonable assumption because there were closet o 50 spots that looked awful with globs of caulking (there are still spots like this in the home, including a few of the photos I attached with my original complaint. When it was taking a while for ***** to come back I texted him and asked when he was going to return and he stated that he was done with the project and had "moved on to other customers."

      2. The siding, I've included a photo of the protected siding the the faded pieces. They are not simply "dirty" and we brought in another contractor who has specifically worked on siding for the last 15 years and he noted that with washing and scrubbing the fading from the siding sitting in the snow was never going to fully match the original siding. We have already ordered another square of siding and they are going to fix it. What's even more incredible is that there are still 4 pieces of the new siding that were protected in the patching that just were not used. They are currently sitting on the side of our garage and I can verify it.

The tile was brought to ******* attention and he removed one piece of tiling and put it a new piece which is still not perfectly level. We are bringing in a flooring expert to fix it property.

I have the text messages about the staples.

I think ***** addressed the paint issue on the top of trims by admitting they simply don't paint everything.

The fan in the bedroom I disagree with, considering Steiner Services did a proper job in our other rooms and then as this was a final part of their project just did not do it here.

The master bedroom fan continues to make a grinding noise that was never present but I have our electrician fixing it.

The Internet cable was not trimmed out properly. I actually had to remove the faceplate which went over part of the bottom trim and left a whole behind the corded face place. I have photos of the fix that had to be implemented.

The lights were on site for 4 months. The electrician can verify that he asked for the cords to be left in a completed state for him to finish. He was unaware that the soffits were left open and was shocked to learn that ***** Steiner had left them open.

The outlets were not left to "preference" and I've attached a final look at the product. Again, our electrician is fixing this, he noted that it was a simple manner of adding some spacers to bring the box closer. As you can see in the pics, the plates are pushed forward with gapping. The outlet behind our bed was even further sunk in and behind our other dresser.

I told ***** I could open the window, it's not only not fixed but after bringing in other workers (a common theme), they noted that when they take off the siding to fix the fading issues, they will fix the window which is not installed correctly. The window is NOT plumb with the window starting about 4 inches up losing it's square. This is why the window will open smoothing for about 6 inches then stick. I had hoped that just pushing it up and down a bunch of times would fix it but it never became lose and now we are having it resituated. The other two windows I will say slide easily.

The subcontractor I agree should be completing the work but they have read my text messages and have not responded (I can see the read receipt) and they have refused to answer my calls. I have hired ******** ******** for the job and it is part of a $3600 pour I'm having done for a new sidewalk. ******** is charging me approximately $800 to skim the siding. I agree that it is the subcontractors job to finish it but it's also ***** Steiner's job to make sure the people he hired actually finish the work. They have refused and it has added to the fixes I need to now pay for (have already paid for).

The offer to refund the $2200 was to have someone else come and install the remaining windows and siding. I did not "reject" the refund offer, I just asked ***** to finish it. He did finish the paneling issue in the addition but the siding, stuck window, ceilings, staples still left in the trim, and other issues led me to file the complaint along with a completely abandoned skim coating for the blowout. A "thicker" wall is not a bonus, it was caused by a mistake and the fire hazard that is the window is not excusable.

I'm happy to have the new installers/contractors provide verification of the issues.

In the meantime, we're not going to come to a solution over this, as we don't trust the contractor to finish the work and have already hired new contractors (this wasn't even remotely about money, it was about the job being done properly and when it comes to the stuck window for safety purposes). I will again admit to losing my cool but I also have all of my text messages with Steiner Services which I have needed to keep for legal purposes and the constant issues and ******* claims that things like the ceiling were done properly started to mount over time. Throw in a completely destroyed yard because his subcontractor just threw all the dirty from our addition all over our yard and it has become a major renovation to fix parts of our major renovation.
