My wife and I decided to stay at a local motel instead of staying at her parents house. I have allergies to one of their pets. When checking in for the weekend, we paid and were given keys to our room. When entering the room, we did not find our conditions of our room suitable to a comfortable stay. The HVAC was very dusty, there was a large stain on the carpet, the ceiling had a large crack, the restroom was in dire need of a paint job, lighting was not inviting or warm. I went ahead and asked the supposed owner if we could get a refund, because regardless if we did or not, we were uncomfortable using their room. We were refused and were told the policy is "non refundable". The only evidence I have of such a policy which I could find would be on Expedia, a booking app, when selecting a room on the same day. I understand, policy is policy. The owner would not disclose to me the reason for the policy, nor would they respond to my claim that there must be a way to refund my debit card. They have a sign on the reception counter with "no checks" and "no cash refunds". I had told the owner that I was very upset and I wanted my money spent back, but I was told that because of policy, this would not happen. I find this very unsettling and wish to reach out to other means to right my perceived wrong.
