My sister and i are trying to close our deceased fathers account. We cashed in his CD ‘s with no problem. We had the original CD with us at that time. We were not asked for the original certificates. We are trying to close our deceased dads NOW account. We have done everything they have required. Banterra bank in Metropolis, Il will not allow us to close this account because they now want the original CD which they have already cashed. I can’t believe it is legal to refuse to close an account due to the banks own inadequacy on a separate matter. This isn’t our mistake. It is the banks mistake. They are making another mistake by refusing to close a separate account for which they have all the proper documentsBusiness response

We are in receipt of the complaint for the above referenced customer. As a Compliance Officer, specializing in Consumer Complaints, I welcome the opportunity to respond to the customer’s inquiry. As was requested, the bank addressed this matter directly with the customer on September 15, by way of a phone call and a follow-up letter of response will be provided.
