I purchased a 30' yacht from Green Turtle Bay in April of 2021. I leased an annual 40' boat slip from Green Turtle Bay in March of 2022. I am a Captains Club Member with them as well. On the 4th of July, my boat was damaged while in use and began sinking. I was able to get the boat to the crane at Green Turtle Bay to lift it out of the water before it sank all the way. I then informed Green Turtle Bay I would be filing a claim with ***** ****. During this time ** instructed GTB to remove the heads on my engine and other parts. My boat has an electronic hatch that raises up 4 feet to get to both large motors. ** then sent out an engineer to inspect the boat. Green Turtle Bay allowed him access to the boat and even used a jump start pack to open the hatch for him. Unfortunately, after the surveyor left, Green Turtle Bay forgot to close the engine hatch and left it wide open until I found it that way 8 days and three heavy storms later. This allowed rain to destroy my exposed engine parts by causing rust and warping. GTB had their manager, ****** email me a lie saying it somehow was the surveyor's fault. I have that email. That employee was later fired or let go for foul behavior. I then scheduled a meeting with Green Turtle Bays General Manager ****** During the meeting when I asked them about this, he became very defensive and said my motors were ruined any way and tried to get me to agree. ***** then became loud and threating telling me I have 30 days to get my boat out of there. The next part was very odd. When ***** stood up, he began crying a little and ran into his office slamming the door and yelling "Email me your problems". Not quite sure what that meant, but when you see a grown man cry, it probably is his home life or something major going wrong in his life. I have dealt with trauma before and didn't want to make it worse with my boat issue. Sometimes a guy needs a break. However, ***** and Green Turtle Bay are still responsible for damage GTB caused.

      Business response

      11/08/2022

Below is the response to BBB complaint.

Green Turtle Bay did loan a jumper pack to allow the surveyor access to engine room, but it was the responsibility of the surveyor (which is not associated to GTB in any way) to close the engine hatch when done with his survey and not GTB responsibility.

The claim from *** ***** that there were “three heavy storms” during the eight-day period when the hatch was open is completely inaccurate as our area was in a drought during this period. During the eight-day period that the engine hatch was open, there was no rain in our area and can be proved by going to local weather and search monthly precipitation records for September 5 through September 16th which show no precipitation in our area.

Just to be clear, the engine in question (STBD engine) was totally locked up and had internal damage when *** ***** first brought the boat to GTB so there was no additional damage done to anything after the boat arrived to GTB. Just a note, rain (even though there was no rain) does not warp cast iron cylinder heads laying in an engine room.

*** ***** comments concerning ***** (our old Boat Works manager) is also incorrect as ***** gave his two weeks’ notice during this period due to his personal side business becoming extremely busy and needed his fulltime attention.

***** never said to *** ***** that his “motors” were ruined but only the STBD engine had major concerns as it arrived to GTB completely full of water and locked up due to the boat almost sinking when *** ***** brought the boat to GTB for emergency haul-out.

***** did not threaten anyone. When we realized that *** ***** was not interested in allowing us to conference in *** ***** insurance company to discuss and deal with *** ***** accusations against GTB and *** ***** own insurance company, it became clear to us that we must bring this situation to a close and inform *** ***** to remove his boat from our premises within 30 days.  *** ***** was threatening lawsuit against GTB, and his own insurance company and we were not going to participate or entertain such nonsense as both GTB and *** ***** insurance company had no negligence from either side. It became very clear that *** ***** was looking for a third party to pay for damages to his boat which were all part of the initial failure when *** ***** brought GTB the boat to haul-out because it was sinking. Also know that *** ***** was bragging in front of ***** and 4 other GTB staff that he already had 17 active lawsuits against companies, and it was nothing for him to add a couple more……

I can assure you that ***** did not “cry”, but I did inform *** ***** that all correspondence must be in email form moving forward. *** ***** began cursing and yelling so I then informed *** ***** that he must leave, then I went in my office and shut my door to bring an end to the nonproductive conversation.

Green Turtle Bay is in no way responsible for any damages to *** ***** boat as all damages occurred before the boat arrived to GTB.

      Best,
