*** **** and his construction crew replaced a roof at our residence at 1** ** ****** ****. Within a few weeks of replacement, it began leaking. Particularly around the skylight, the chimney and the eve of the house into a bedroom. He has been to our home numerous times to stop the leaks over the years. In October 2020, I contacted our insurance company because of depressions in the roof and yet another leak around the chimney. An Engineer was sent by ********** ********* ****** and discovered numerous issues that included improper ventilation, ventilation boot installed upside down (see page 15), and historic leakage. Our Insurance Company will not cover any of the damage. Coy reviewed the engineers report and agreed to repair the roof when he came to look at the damage. His exact words were, "I could have done a better job putting this on". For over a year, we have been calling him every few weeks and he says I will be there in "a couple of weeks" and never shows despite repeated calls. The last call to him was in October 2021 in which he hung up on ** ******** The Craftsmanship of *** **** and the lack of expertise and craftsmanship of his crew has damaged our home!

*** **** Construction has been serving the community for 29 years. As one can see this is the only complaint on file with BBB.

The roof installed on the home at 1** ** ****** ****, ******* ***** KY was installed 13 years ago. At the time it was strongly suggested that vents be put on the house which Ms. ****** declined, 3 times.

The engineer report says the house needed ventilation which was declined by Ms. ****** at the time the roof was installed. We did not install gutters nor design the house.

I have no ill will toward the ******** and wish them the best.

      Sincerely,

      *** ****

      Customer response

      02/10/2022

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[I choose to decline Coy Neal's response,  The information he provided is untrue.  I did not decline installation of the vents.  As a matter of fact, I approved the two vents he did install and paid for unrelated to the storm damage claim he was paid to repair. He stated two would be enough.  However, I DID decline on multiple occasions the removal of our chimney and the removal of the large existing vent at the time of roof installation.    I told him we would not remove the chimney and the original vent AGAIN in November 2020 when he asked.  You can see one of the vents he installed and the incorrectly installed boot in the photo attached sent to me by the Contractor who repaired the roof while replacing sheathing and installing ice shield. If you review the engineer's report you will also see the the boot on the bathroom vent is installed incorrectly, which caused a leak into the bathroom.

I have spoken to the Insurance Company that paid the original storm claim.  The roof was not installed 13 years ago as stated and can provide proof, this is not true. Coy Neal told me over the phone that he had no records of when he installed our roof when I asked him if he had record for the Insurance Company that provided the Engineer's Report.  Throughout the course of time, Coy Neal was at our house attempting to remediate leaks to the roof he and his crew installed on numerous occasions. On one of those occasions, he also repaired damage to a downstairs bedroom ceiling in which he poorly applied joint compound and used spray paint to cover.  I can provide a photo of that as well.

Since receiving a copy of the engineer's report, at no time did Coy Neal ever tell my husband, ***** that he would not repair the roof.  When he came to our house to look the roof in November of 2020 and discuss the engineer's report, he agreed to fix the roof.  When he and ***** spoke on the phone, he also agreed verbally to repair but asked ***** to pay for labor, ***** declined to pay for the labor or materials.  Each time ***** spoke to Coy, he told him he had a job to finish and it would be a couple of weeks.   Each phone call Coy assured ***** he would be at out home to fix it. Excuses Coy provided for not doing so included having materials stolen off a job site, he didn't have any help to which ***** responded offering to help him and twice was on vacation.

We gave up after Coy hung up on ***** and got someone else to repair because we had to get the multiple leaks stopped.  We were not attempting to get Coy Neal to do anything except what he said he agreed to do, we only wanted the roof repaired. We should not be responsible for cost of the repair since it was his craftsmanship and the craftsmanship of his crew that caused the damage to our home.

He is correct in stating he did not install the gutters or design the house, it was existing when he installed the roof.  Gutter and soffit replacement was never mentioned by Coy Neal until November 2020, after he received the Engineer's Report.

      Kind regards,

      ********
