Hubby and I were taking a short vacation near Pikeville when he began bleeding from his bowel so we went to the ER at PMC and were later assigned to a room where he stayed for one night. He had EXCELLENT care and treatment - understanding, knowledgable staff (Dr. *****) and caring, efficient nurses (Sarah, Kai and all on duty). We were highly impressed with the facility - the extent and variety of special clinics, the expediency of treatment in the ER and elsewhere, the kindness to me as a spouse staying overnight with the patient, and generally, cleanliness, thoughtful individual-based care, monitoring, politeness and the effectiveness of the diagnosis and medications prescribed, so that we were able to return home to North Carolina without any worries about my husband's immediate medical concerns. THANK YOU, PMC!Review from Ray F

My wife went in because of her leg swelling. They diagnosed her with blood clots. We came from Hazard because last time we were there we got good results (they helped her) so we stayed 4 days. Little fellow came in trying and i mean trying to take blood. He poked and gouged and finally got it and the girl he was with dropped it and he gouged again. I questioned him and he said he had a 80 out of 85 success getting blood. He said he had get 100 sticks if he got blood or not. LOL They said they were going to bust the blood clots and the surgeon would be in. Four days never seen him. They gave her bags of blood thinner all 4 days. They sent her home and i had to take her to U.K. in Lexington, Ky. They help her there. Another problem I have with them they don`t want to stop billing you, My wife pays a bill off and instead of getting credit they add it back on. I TOLD MY WIFE IF I GET DOWN LET ME DIE BEFORE YOU TAKE ME OVER THERE. One nurse came in and told me i won a couppie doll i did`t get the meaning of that some of them are hateful snobs.Review from Loretta R

About 2.weeks ago I woke up in the middle of night with severe pain on my left side, vomiting. Brian started with me to PMC ER and had to call an ambulance to meet us in route.PMC diagnosed me with a kidney stone with a size of 6/7 mm.Gave me tordol and flomax and said I should pass it on my own follow up with urologist in 3 days. So I called urologist they told me they didn’t have any openings keep my follow up which is in April.if needed go back to ER.on Wednesday pain hit so hard I couldn’t even pee.waited for bout hour and had Brian take me to PMC ER.Took them a hour to triage me and sit me back in the lobby. At this point I can’t pee, I’m in so much painSo after 3 hours I left.Needless to say Brian had to call an ambulance again. They take me back to PMC and the triage nurse Dakota was a pure smart mouth. He said you were here and left your going back out to the lobby. The paramedic told him I just had some painmed his exact words “ I don’t care she can sit in a wheelchair” he then ripped the heplock ( IV) out of my arm and the paramedics said I just put that in and his words “ and I just took it out”. I said you do t understand I can’t even pee he said NOT MY PROBLEM.So I left again in misery. So Brian took me straight to Hazard ER and within 10 min I was triaged and even tho they didn’t have any beds they put me in a room and started an IV to give me meds for vomiting and pain.Within 5 min the dr came checked me ordered test and said I had a kidney stone 6 mm that was obstructed so the next morning I had surgery to remove that stoneandplaced a stent to let infection flow out. The next day I had to have another surgery to break up a 4 mm stone in my kidney. I will NEVER return to PMC. If they had taken care of the stone when I first went instead of sending me home with it I wouldn’t had to suffer and go thru 2 surgeries.I think PMC needs to do something to improve their ER wait and do something about employees ( Dakota) that are very rude and uncompassionateReview from Anthony L

I never really have a problem with my doctors, appointments, or the ER. My problem is dealing with the nurses and receptionists. I live 45 minutes from Pikeville and sometimes have to reschedule my appointments or call the hospital to request refills. I can't count how many times I've gone days, sometimes weeks without my medications because I've requested for them to get called in and the message never got passed along, or I've sat and listened to the phone ring and ring while I'm transferred, just to get hung up on instead of someone actually answering and asking me to please hold. They are some of the rudest employees I've ever dealt with in my life! Before posting this review, I tried filing this as a complaint on 09/09/22 (my most recent hernia surgery) when I was at Walmart Pharmacy trying to get my pain meds that the hospital decided to not send me home with as they did on my last surgery. The pharmacy tried calling, I tried calling, but nobody in the hospital wanted to answer the damn phone and after three transfers back and forth between the front desk and surgery rooms, I get hung up on again before the pharmacy finally reaches someone and can get me my meds so I can go home and rest as intended. Of course, when I filed this complaint, BBB decided they "couldn't do anything about it". Figures, everyone has to protect the medical elites.Review from Kendra V

If I could give less than 1 star I would!! My brother was taken from Highlands Regional to Pikeville medical after a car accident. After tests were done it was concluded that he had a broken foot in 4 different places and a large, swollen laceration on the opposite knee. He was in a great deal of pain and they wanted to send him home on crutches which was pointless because he was not able to walk or put pressure on either leg, and told him to come back in 5 hours to see a surgeon. After a nurse, Triniti R*****, got in my face about my brother being able to walk, going as far as arguing with my brother that had already been traumatized enough for one day, another RN came in and asked my brother if he thought he needed to stay. Of course, my brother said yes. After this, I was escorted out of the building because this nurse complained, but yet, she was the one that was being very unprofessional. When the staff is rude to a concerned family and cannot answer or help with their questions, they should not be in this field of work!Pikeville Medical Center Response

I came to the ER at 11:20pm. I sat in the waiting room until I was put in a room at 2:07am. Fluids were started via an IV for about 350cc. I was unhooked to go pee and never hooked back up to continue with my fluid intake. At 4:25am I was taken for a a CT scan. I asked to speak to someone at 5:22am concerning how much longer until I received any information. Not the first nurse or dr. came to my room to check on me. It is now 6:00am and I am still sitting in the ER room. This has been the most inefficient ER trip ever!! Staffing was not an issue, as 10-12 gathered around the nurses station at any given point.Pikeville Medical Center Response

I am disgusted with some of the nurses/staff there. While many are simply amazing.. my grandmother did not receive quality care in a wonderful environment! The nurses tried to give her sink water to drink, her lips were chaffed and mouth dry.. While in the covid unit. She was fall risk, very weak and they left her sitting up on the edge of the bed. The nurse in charge of her on certain rotation did not return our calls. It was not until I had reached out to a house supervisor that my grandmother started getting the care she deserved.. I am very thankful for the house Supervisor in charge and hope that PMC does a better job in the future.. I get it we are still in the middle of a global pandemic.. but if you don't have compassion and want to treat each patient as you'd want to be or even as your own flesh and blood.. then seriously don't become a nurse.. there are other money making professions out there that you are probably better suited for! DO BETTER PMC... stop hiring the first joker off the street straight out of school... give these men and women extra training...Pikeville Medical Center Response
