I paid $2800 to book 7 days of guided fishing for redfish at $800/day with ********************* (LA Fly Guide), June 1, 2024 thru June 7, 2024. On the fourth day of fishing, my partner, ***, paid **** the balance of $2800, even though we hadn't completed the week. On the fifth **************** cancelled fishing because winds were too high. We fished the next two days for a total of 6 days. On the last day of the trip **** informed us he would only charge us for 6 days, which we felt was fair. **** asked my partner if he would like his check back so he could write another check for $2,000 to correctly cover the adjusted balance of $4800. *** had neglected to bring along his checkbook and after much discussion we all agreed that if *** paid **** $80 cash that would cover the tip plus the guiding fee. I gave **** $480 cash to cover my 20% tip, which he watched me count from my wallet. In all the discussion it never occurred to any of us that my deposit of $2800 was $400 more than what I owed for 6 days of guiding. When I got home I texted **** to explain the mistake. When I finally reached him after three days he blew up and accused me of trying to take the tip back. After multiple emails in which his logic was stretched to the point that it was ridiculous, I broke off contact and told him I will be filing a complaint in small claims court.I paid: $2800 for deposit on 7 days fishing @ $800/day Tip: $480 Total paid: $3280 I actually owed: $2400 for 6 days of fishing per agreement with **** 20% tip: $480 Total owed: $2880 I overpaid by $400.
