On April 1st 2024 UPS (****** owner/manager) told my boyfriend they would ship his couch to me from La to Ct and he told him about $800. So we agreed on that price. On April 2nd when I returned home I looked at the credit card statement to pay for it and he charged me $2269!! Without a call to me to let me know the amount was over $800! He said the measurements were wrong and that is not true I was there when we measured the couch. I called him at the UPS Store and told him you quoted $800 and then you turn around and charge me $1469 over! I told him he should have called on the increase and he failed to do that. Now he is threating me with a lawsuit. I didn't get the couch I refused delivery because of the price! He had an obligation to call me on the increase in price and never did! I called him and told him I will pay you $800 and nothing more as a quote is a quote! He is trying to rip me off. I disputed the charge with my credit card company and waiting on the response. He is lying about the measurements and said he had to buy the materials to ship it and I said no that is part of the quote. He didn't say anything to us about charges for materials.Business response

*** ***** ***** came into the store with measurements of a couch to ship. He never mentioned who it was for. The measurements were entered into our Freight shipping system and with the measurements he gave, the price quote was around $850 to ship it. *** ***** had some delivery guys drop off the couch because shipping it through them would cost $3000.00. *** ***** nor ************* came to the store. **** ********** provided a credit card number, expiration date, and CVV # along with the address to send it over the phone. She had already left town. The dimensions of the couch was not accurate and the couch was not on a pallet. The couch had to be placed on a pallet so it could be moved and so it can be secured with straps and shrink wrap. Adding a pallet alone increased the height of the freight by 5 inches. I also had to go to Lowe's to purchase the supplies to secure it to the pallet. While *** ********** had provided payment for shipment, I believed I was still shipping for *** *****.....now everyone is already left town and I have a couch in my store. I did what I was asked to do. We palleted the couch and shipped it with the correct dimensions. The correct dimensions made the shipment price to $1962.00. I never quoted a price for my time to palletize it, nor my price for the pallet and supplies to safely secure it. That was an additional $300. Again, all my conversations prior were with *** *****. Since the moving company was charging $3000 to ship, I was still much less. My cost alone for shipping is more than $800. I would not have shipped something for someone to lose money. *** ***** called me after the charge and asked if I could help with the price. I agreed to lower the cost by $200 (my personal time and labor). He said he would get in touch with me. The couch was refused delivery and is currently in a hold with TForce freight. They will dispose of the couch in less than 30 days.Customer response

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting his response because: The owner/manager(*****) of the UPS store knew he was shipping the couch to me because when he called me to get the credit card I told him it was being shipped to me and gave him my address! He is stating he thought he was shipping the couch to ***** ****** Why would he claim that when he knew it was coming to me cause like I said I gave him my address and credit card number. ***** ***** was standing right next to me and heard me say that. He needed my address to charge the credit card! So him claiming he didn't know it was coming to me is a lie! When he quoted the price of about $800 to ***** ***** we agreed that was reasonable. The owner/manager(*****) had my cell number! He had it cause he called me for the credit card number. So when the price increased from what he quoted to ***** ***** he should of called myself or ***** ***** with the price increase but he didn't! He assumed we would just accept the increase in price and went ahead and charged my credit card. I DID NOT authorize the amount he charged me $ 2269!! He had my cell number and also ***** *****'s cell phone number so there is no excuse why he failed to call one of us on the price increase!!
Sincerely,
**** **********Customer response

The owner/manager (******) of UPS states in his response: "**** ********** provided a credit card number, expiration date, and CVV # along with the address to send it over the phone." Then he states he believed he was shipping for ***** *****. He knew it was being shipped to me! He admits in his response that I gave the address to where it was going and the credit card number. He states we already left town, well he had our cell phone numbers! He couldn't call??? The measurements of the couch were correct we gave him over the phone because the moving company that was moving ***** ***** measured it gave us the information and ***** ***** called ***** with the measurements! I don't take kindly to anyone who is tries to rip me off. For him to go and charge my credit card without my authorization on the price increase of $1469 that was his error for not confirming with us if the price was okay to still ship.
