Jul 24, 2024 Today I went into this establishment, Choice Cleaners on *********** in *********, **, to get two dresses hemmed. I spoke with *****, (she said she was the owner.) I put the dresses on so that she could pin them up and measure the length. Once that was done, I went with her to the register for the price for hemming both dresses. She quoted me a price of $259.00! Yes, I repeat, $259.00... to hem.. no other alterations needed, just hem 2 long dresses. ***** said that it included a "good press"! She then requested that I pay the total $259.00 up front. I informed her that I would leave a $50.00 deposit, and I did. I left and then immediately realized that was highway robbery and I was being taken to the cleaners by *****. 10 minutes later, I called her and expressed my concerns about the expense. I let her know that I was coming to pick up my dresses and my $50.00 deposit. When I arrived to pick up my dresses, she asked for the receipt. I handed it to her and she handed me my $50 deposit and the 2 dresses. As ***** was handing me the dresses, she said, Oh, I cut the dress when you called! I was not sure that I heard her correctly. I looked at the bottom of one of my dresses and she had taken scissors and cut about 3 inches across the bottom! I could not believe that she intentionally damaged my dress. The dress was to be worn for an out of state wedding. I will most likely need to purchase another dress at the last minute. Needless to say, I would not recommend this business to anyone. A straight dress hem should cost no more than $40-$50. ***** is not a business person who acted with any business integrity. She intentionally attempted to get $259 for doing 2 dress hems. It appears that she has done this before according to some of her Yelp reviews. I just don't want others to be taken advantage of. I'm not sure what my next steps might be.
