Around May 25 I had asked Lerfald Services to help with my drainage ditch by putting rock and sod, plus to excavate/smooth out the drainage slope per city guidelines. I had explained to *****(the owner/operator) that i wanted the rock area a certain area and when it came time to sodding it, that I wanted new sod put down in the bare areas plus any area that looked like crab grass. Things seemed to be going good so and even got sign off on the depth below the drainage area. ***** would check in with just about every step of the way minus when it came down to the sod. One of his part time workers came that day to lay down the black dirt and the sod. ***** did not make it out that day or even the day after to check with me on how things had went or what I had thought about it. He is usually good about texting me as well but no texts either to check in with the end product. Was just more curious about me making the final payment right after the part time worker had left. Unfortunately not all of the area that I had specified was covered in sod and later I had to go back and purchase out of my own money bags of black dirt and grass seed to cover the areas that they had missed. Then about a week after of watering, even with the high temps and 3x watering a day, the grass that they had laid down had died and burnt. I sent a temp right away with a pic of the grass. He told me on multiple occasions to include via text and in person that i should keep watering it and if it doesnt come back by spring time that he would evaluate it and handle it as needed. Now in the last couple weeks I had tried to reach out to him, he accuses me that i never watered it too much(had an irrigation system on a timer everyday) or my well pump wasnt strong enough(even though i have had green grass throughout the summer) and that I installed the irrigation myself as for trying to back out of fixing the issue 100% on his end. To be aware as well, about 60% of the grass did grow back.Business response

First of all, we want all of our customers happy with our services. I did say keep watering and see what happens. I also said we could address in the fall. The grass came in well, considering slit didnt rain all summer and customer didnt water enough. I do recall being on job with my full time workers. We were short some sod so my worker went and got sod and installed on his own to complete project. I asked for final payment after completion of job. The invoice was paid in full with no complaints. We do not warranty sod. Its up to customer to water and care for it. I also offered to deliver and install new sod but customer declined to pay for sod itself. Then I offered to install dirt and grass seed in the few spots that didnt grow well out of entire area. I have pictures to prove sod looks well now after six inches of rain. We will continue to give good service to our many happy customers and our reviews prove it. This is our first complaint. To this day we still are offering to make this project right with customer. That is not the entire conversation between him and I in trying to resolve this discussion. I did in fact water the grass enough since I actually installed sod in a different section of the house with the same watering schedule and nearly same temp outside and it turned out just fine. About 46% of the sod he laid down did not grow back or produced weeds. Every response I gave him, he gave some other excuse why he wasnt going to fix it. It was only until my mention of doing it myself and bringing him to court plus reporting it to BBB he gave me that offer of seeding and dirt. By that time unfortunately, he was very unprofessional and started harassing me via text message even though I had given my answer. Even came my place the next day, came to my place and decided to actually take good pictures and wake me up before 8 am. He was professional in the beginning until this happened and that I told him he never actually finished the job that I had asked him to and that on the far end of the drainage he never laid sod and left it bare, for which i had to spend more money on dirt and seed to get it to grow again. That is why I told him I would not pay for the sod. Also did not tell his part time guy that he didnt do everything correctly because unfortunately he was in a motor cycle accident years ago and has a tendency to forget things, plus I had thought he would come out to review the job they did like he usually does. I also have told him in the past of stuff that they missed or forgot to finish up on and he says h*** fix it but they next got around to coming back to fix. Honestly it is my fault that I kept giving him work and if I would have known this outcome would have turned out like this, I would have done a little more research on him since he did my moms place years ago. More than likely would have chose someone else to do my yard.if you want to view the text messages. I can send them to you if you want as well.
