This company put my roof on my home five years ago; I have a 15 year warranty. I have the contract that I signed with them. My neighbor noticed that there was a corner that was lifting, and I went to see for my self and there is a corner that is lifting, exposing the plywood and the plywood was split. I called the company and their representative said they would come out but they were going to charge me $250. No where in the contract does it specify this. They said that the $250 is used toward any repairs. The warranty covers workmanship issues, and that**;s what this is.Business response

Yes the homeowner has a 15 year WORKMANSHIP warranty, which any workmanship issues will usually occur in the first 6 to 12 months. The roof is five years old, and we have had many storms especially with high wind that most likely created the need for a repair. This is a maintenance issue not WORKMANSHIP, and our minimum repair inspection charge is $250.00.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: No where in the signed contract from *********************** dated 9/22/2017, does it list any exclusions pertaining to high winds, storms, hail or any other such items. Furthermore there is no mention of maintenance of any kind, or a $250.00 charge for inspection! I just noticed this recently so have no idea if this is something new or has been there for a while. What good is a warranty if it is not enforced. A man from the company(***), has been here several times over the past three years to repairs leaks , and install a drip leg most recently. This looks to me to be a simple repair and possible replacement of plywood and reinstall some shingles and reattach with nails. A note from **** on his company paper-"If for ANY reason your experience has been less than satisfactory, please contact me directly. We take this industry very seriously and hold firm to the belief that you-the customer-are our most valuable critic". I have all the paperwork from this project, as well as the signed contract, and paid receipt. Let's get this resolved as stated in the original and Only contract, I have, as well as you have. This is not a maintenance issue, how does a home owner have the responsibility to maintain a roof that professionals installed and do so everyday? The nails used were too short and have popped up! If you will come and see it you will see it is a simple repair and sealing. Please hold true to your word and satisy my needs and your written word-otherwise, what good is it!
Sincerely,

First of all, the homeowner needs to understand that all roofs are installed to manufactures specifications with 1-1/4 coil nails throughout the entire roof and the nails are not different or too short in just one section. Deck/plywood replacement is definitely a maintenance issue. In order for the homeowner to avoid a service charge, it would be best to provide pictures to assess the extent of the repair, then we can determine if it is a result of negligent workmanship or maintenance.Customer response

Complaint: 18170838
I am rejecting this response because:The following pictures will show the area in question that is detached from the perimeter ****** strips. The shingles are attached to the plywood but the plywood is detached from the ***************************************** place. Galvanized roofing nails are visible. This area needs to be reattached and then hopefully sealed with liquid nails or silicone to prevent any leakage at the seams that are repaired. This is a 90 section about 2 ft square. Thank you, and I look forward to a quick repair and resolution to this situation.
Sincerely,

Thanks for providing pictures of your repair which confirms this is not a repair under warranty. The decking is the original plywood installed on the roof and the separation could have been caused by some type of animal (squirrel or raccoon) or strong winds. I recommend you contact an animal control company for an inspection of your attic space, then re-attach the decking. We did replace 13 pieces of the plywood decking, not this area, with OSB which I have attached a picture and can clearly see the difference between the original plywood deck (your repair pictures) and OSB replacement. I have also attached a picture of the same area from when we completed the roof replacement and installing fascia metal that shows proper installation. This is an original decking issue and is not related to our installation. If you would like a repair estimate, our minimum service charge is $250.00.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
This is total b******* and a cop out. There are no animals in the Attic and even if wind did pull this up you can see where the nails are bent from not being properly attached. It's clear the nails have come up because of improper installation. This would be a half hour repair, and should be covered under the 15-year warranty. This guy is taking a measly way out, just to make $250. I believe the rumors of this company going out of business are true and this is proof of the pudding. I am not satisfied with this answer and will not be until this situation is rectified by the original installer which bolt is. You have all the paperwork where he's saying you are the most important person to us here is our warranty but it's not worth ****! Your reputation means nothing if you don't follow through with your 15-year warranty. I did not install this roof you did and should stand by it because of faulty installation. It is not my job to make your repair which is a very simple one, and I could do it but I don't want to void the warranty. If wind did take it up who knows when that has happened? There is nothing in the original contract that precludes wind as not covered. Come do your job and move on to the next one, if there is one. No pictures were provided by you, although I provided all the proof you need. Just come look for yourself and make the repair.
Sincerely,

10/28/2022: Mediator sent an email to the consumer regarding mediation. [CR] I have tried to get **** to come out and fix this situation. It is an easy and quick fix and I could do it but it's not my responsibility to fix somebody else's work. I have sent pictures, explain the situation, and still this person wants $250 to come out and do something just to look at it. You have all the paperwork and pictures. This is a breach of the contract that you and I both have. It says nothing on the contract that I signed that I need to pay to have them come out and look at something. This is a new practice this person is doing since I had work done. I think there are other things that are going on here but I just want it done correctly according to the contract which is a simple fix. You can see in one of the pictures that they larger nail that should have been driven down straight is bent and not over the ****** strip where it should be. Who knows how long this has been this way. I have had a leak in the surrounding area. Please let me know how you want to proceed and what I can do to get this rectified, thank you.11/14/2022: Mediator sent an update to the consumer via email. [CR] Once again this is b******* and a cop out. It may be true that they did not install the plywood where these shingles are but they did install the shingles over the entire roof. Are they not responsible for their shingle installation and proper adhesion? You can clearly see in the picture where the nail is bent it was not attached correctly when they installed the shingles. I have a 15-year warranty which you have copies of the original contract and it doesn't have any disclaimers that would cover what he's trying to get out of. I can understand why they're going out of business if they haven't already with a business platform such that he is trying to convey since my contract. I am not happy with this I want this resolved as soon as possible it's a quick fix it won't take them more than a half an hour. Thank you.Business response

10/28/2022: I have explained to the consumer many times that this is not a warranty issue. This issue has been caused by the original decking that we did not replace or work on. If he is seeking a repair we will be happy to come out, but the consumer will be responsible for the service fee of $250.00.
