I met with the owner in September 2023 and signed a contract that stated the amount of the rental would be $3,000 with a $500 deposit. If we cancelled, we would get it back other than the deposit. The remaining amount was paid on February 15, 2024, $3,000 in total. I reached out to him on March 9, 2024, to let him know we had decided to change the location to an even smaller and more intimate place because we decided it would be best for us to invite less and downsize. He told me he was hosting an event and would call me later. He called me to let me know he would have the refund within 2 weeks. However, we did not see a dime from him until April 30, 2024, and he paid us back $1,500 and said he would have the rest by May 10th. I reached out on May 10th, and he told me he did not have it, he wasn't even going to be able to pay his mortgage this month and this was on us and our problem, not his, and he wasn't planning on us cancelling the booking, so he spent the money. He has repeatedly told us that he spent the money for repairs to a roof on the chapel and he no longer has the money to refund us. I reached out again on June 1, and he said he was looking to have it for us on June 10th if not sooner, so I reached out on June 11th, and he still states he does not have it and is waiting on people to book and pay. I reached out also on June 17 bceause he told me he was expecting payment over the weekend. He told me again, he does not have it. I do not know what my next steps should be to get the remaining $1,000 that we are owed from the money paid towards a service that he did not provide.Business response

I have already paid back $1,500 of the disputed amount with the full intention to make the rest of the payment as soon as possible. Tuesday the 25th would work for me as long as it works for you.Business response
