I called K&W Service and Repair based on. Facebook referral. They came the same day to check my air conditioner, requiring that the $85.00 service fee be payed before they left my yard. The quote I was given was over $1400.00 to replace a motor. Nothing else was discussed to justify that charge except the service person said it was necessary for them to go all the way to King, NC to get the motor. Even though I am a widow and have never had to deal with air conditioning repair before, I thought the quote to be higher than I expected. But, being a trusting person ( this company advertises itself as Christian based family business) I told them I would have to wait to get it repaired. They charged the 85.00 on my card and told me they would sent the repair quote to my email. That document was never sent. Two months later I had a conversation with an out of town family member about not having air conditioning all summer. He told me that there should not be anything on the air conditioner that would cost that much, and encouraged me to call someone else. I did call another business and they came right out. They replaced my fan motor and a capacitor plus their service fee for $330.00. I sent a message to K&W with my concerns and they replied that they use only the OEM parts with warranty, plus they always do a chemical cleaning when they service the unit. Even if the parts were more, I never agreed to a chemical cleaning. That was a huge difference in the cost they quoted and the actual cost of the repair. I spent the summer thinking I couldn’t fix my air conditioner because it was not in my budget and it was very uncomfortable in my home. I requested a returned service fee, because I felt that I had been misled. Could it have been because I obviously knew nothing about air conditioner repair and they saw an opportunity?? I don’t know, but be wary when using this business.
