I was charged $4250 for the rewiring of my 1982 Jeep CJ-7. The vehicle was running and driving when dropped off and does not crank anymore. I requested for the gauges to be fixed, and wiring to be redone. Their solution was to replace the entire wiring system with a line of components that they recommended after steering me away from using the all inclusive kit I suggested. The wiring was done very poorly and non-automotive grade wiring connectors were used. Wires and relays were not secured properly and will break/fray upon general use. Several gauges are malfunctioning, the check engine light is also on. I documented all of my known problems and quality control concerns and sent them to the owner of this company and he refused to fix or be held accountable for them. He has refused to answer any of my messages after I began bringing these up.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/07) */ In responding to this, the customer failed to mention in this report that he had replaced the original Jeep motor with an old chevrolet motor and in doing so, melted all the engine wiring. Thus the customer needed 2 separate wiring harnesess, one for chevy and one for jeep. We purchased the appropriate harnesses from *** ******* ****** (professionals in this field) and installed both in accordance with the *** ******* specs and communicated with *** ******* wiring during this process. We ran into issues with the customers aftermarket gauges and upon consulting with *** ******* wiring, confirmed that everything was installed correctly. The aftermarket gauges were not new and they were faulty, not the wiring. The customer attempted numerous times to haggle over pricing during this process. It is noted that this jeep had been worked on previously by the owner in numerous areas incorrectly. We noted that shocks were installed upside down, radiator reservoir was installed upside down, and wiring was cut and spliced and melted when we received the Jeep. The customer agreed it was a hack job and agreed the wiring needed 2 new harnesses to function. The engine needed additional mechanical work of which we were not asked or hired to complete. We did no mechancial work and all we completed was the wiring as instructed by the customer, confirmed by *** ******* wiring as properly installed. It is our belief that this customer was constantly seeking to blame us for additional problems this jeep has that we were not contracted to complete in an effort to obtain work for no charge. We again, were not contracted to do any mechanical work and thus we did none. Any issues with an old chevy engine installed previously by the customer are not a reflection of the work completed by us. The customer sent us a picture of wiring connections that did not even to appear on this same jeep in an attempt to obtain a billing adjustment. In our opinion, this customer is simply seeking something for free. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/12/08) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) In response to the accusations made by RestoRides in their previous response, I would like to state that all pictures submitted to RestoRides as well as the BBB have been of the vehicle and work at question. Never were any pictures sent or questions asked that did not pertain to the work performed by the defending party. Price was only questioned once during the project via a text message which reads "Could you do 3800 if it's cash" no other "haggling" persisted. There are no mechanical issues with the motor, only electrical issues. Issues brought to attention in RestoRides response such as the radiator over flow, and shock orientation are unrelated to RestoRides scope of work and incorrect. RestoRides was made aware of the condition of the Jeep, including the motor swap, faulty wiring, and gauge condition prior to accepting the project. RestoRides initially were provided an incorrect harness by *** *******. This lead to the removal of the incorrect harness and the install of another *** ******* harness, I was charged for the labor of both *** ******* Harness installations. I am suspecting that the second harness and or PCM ordered and installed by RestoRides were also (a) incorrect part(s), as it is causing the motor to throw a flex fuel system code, a system which should not and does not exist on this motor, and a code which was not produced by the motor prior to RestoRides work on the vehicle. Again there are no mechanical issues with the motor only electrical related issues that directly relate to the harness and computer installed by RestoRides. I would like to close my response by saying I have an E.I.T. Certification and though it is in an unrelated engineering field, all statements and documents provided to both RestoRides and The Better Business Bureau have been provided in an ethical manner following the engineering ethics code of conducting business. No misleading information or documentation was provided to any relating party. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2021/12/10) */ Once again the customer is not correct. We did receive a wiring harness from Painless Wiring Systems that we installed and trouble shot to where we did find out the harness was faulty. We spent 24 labor hours attempting to get this working and found out that the motherboard for this harness was faulty. This is when we ordered the *** ******* wiring harness and installed this harness which is not faulty. We credited the customer the total cost of the faulty wiring harness and our labor hours spent. I have attached the pdf denoting all items and work performed and it boldly states the customer was not charged for the faulty harness nor the labor to install, diagnose, and remove the faulty harness. The shop ate the costs of labor and installed the working wiring harness as specified. There were various other issues resolved and fixed as denoted on the invoice. Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2021/12/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The attached billing statement is correct, however I was never made aware that painless brand wiring harness was purchased. I have attached unedited text messages between me and the mechanic which state that I allowed the mechanic to choose which harness to install, I assumed he was going to provide his suggested *** ******* harness. It should also be noted that there is a negative google review that was not written by me or about my Jeep, but another customer with a Jeep who had a similar experience as mine. In summary I would like to focus my complaint on the fore-mentioned poor quality and incomplete nature of work. I feel the defending party is being deceitful, shown by the party denying pictures of their own work within their first response. I believe there is adequate evidence herein BBB responses to resolve this case. Business Response /* (4000, 15, 2021/12/20) */ I don' know what else to say, the customer admits the billing is correct. Text messages submitted by the customer show communication was there in relation to the wiring harnesses and the issues we ran into. We performed no mechanical work on the engine so any codes are not a reflection of our work. I also do not recognize a few of the pictures he submitted which leads me to believe they are not reflective of the jeep that was worked on. It is noted that this Jeep tub is a used fiberglass tub, not original equipment and the hood opens forward from the windshield and some slack in wire is required to open the hood. The Jeep has a different used motor than original, used non standard gauges and everywhere you turn this jeep had non standard piece mill parts. Nothing about this jeep is standard and complaining about work that we performed correctly seems suspect. We were hired to perform the wiring, not repair all of its other issues or get blamed for them. Consumer Response /* (4200, 17, 2021/12/29) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Again, the wiring they installed has a circuit that stays open and kills the batter when the key is turned off. The computer they installed requires a flex fuel electrical sensor which they did not install. The wiring connectors they used to ground the harness are residential home electrical connectors and are not safe for automotive use especial when exposed to water as a frame grounding will be. The covers and connections in some areas were not tightened down such as the pcm cover which I was able to loosen the bolts by hand. There are wires that run in front of the radiator dangling loosely. There is a group of wires which dangle beneath the driver side door that are not connected or secured to anything at all. The list goes on, the fact this company will not own up to their own work is alarming. Business Response /* (4000, 19, 2022/01/10) */ Once again, the wiring was installed per specs according to the wiring harness supplier. We verified and confirmed with the wiring harness supplier. The replacement non factory engine came with ZERO emissions control sensors, all O2 sensors were not on the motor or missing. It was not our job to install any sensors, our job was electrical only. The wiring connectors you will find at any automotive store. Anything not tightened down we are unaware of, and anything dangling was zip tied up, it would not surprise me if the customer clipped those just for the pictures knowing replacing zip ties wouldn't cost 10cents and 15 minutes to do. Finally, the coil of wires not hooked to anything are supposed to hook up to the engines emission control systems of which the customer had DELETED ALL of the components for the emission control systems. These wires go to the EGR and the Evap canister and various other emission control points of contact WHICH ARE NOT THERE. Since the engine had all of these points deleted from the engine, there was certainly nothing to hook these wires to. We coiled them up and secured them inside a protected area in case the customer wanted to reinstall the emissions systems in the future.
