I reached out to Eric (owner) of E.J. Childs Painting to pint the exterior of my home after finding him through a reputable facebook group. The company was contracted to do two coats of paint on the exterior of my home. I put a downpayment before the work started based upon Eric's payment breakdown. After a week or so of work Eric asked if I could make another payment to "help him out with payroll". I paid it because I didn't think there was going to be an issues. After 3 weeks, but only 9 working days because of weather, starting other jobs, or some family issues, I called Eric around 11AM on Tuesday August 31st because he and his crew were not onsite. He never called me back. He simply emailed me stating he was taking his equipment and leaving. He said he would return my second downpayment or legally he had the right to finish the job in 30 days. I waited until his stated payment date to reach out. He told me that he would have the money by the end of the month (September). September came and went without payment. When I reached out to Eric he informed me that he was filing for bankruptcy and his attorney said he shouldn't make any payments. I have been waiting for any form of communication from Eric, but there has been nothing. I see that he has posted new projects that he has recently finished. I commented on one of his posts, and he immediately blocked me. I have no confidence that I can resolve this without any outside help. I have all of the emails, receipts, and paperwork between the company and me.
