I hired Ace Handyman services of Central Jersey to repair a patio slider. It was getting stiff to move and I was told that the track was probably dirty and the sliding pane needed to be removed and cleaned. They said they had craftsmen who were experienced with patio slider window repairs. I explained that the track inside the sliding window needed to be removed and cleaned. He obviously did not know how to do that. He then proceeded to watch videos on the internet for about 20 minutes on how to remove the window. Instead of leaving and setting up a new appointment he tried to raise the rollers with his electric screwdriver causing one of them to break free. Now the window would not move at all. He said he would have someone come back in a few days. Now I have a slider that will not open or close. He obviously caused additional damage. No one called for 3 days and I finally called them. They sent someone out to review the situation. He assessed that most likely one of the rollers fell off when he tried to unscrew it and it fell in the tracks causing the window to be stuck. He said he would need an additional workman to help. I then received a letter from the owner stating that they would send someone out, but I had to give them a credit card first. When I called the owner about this, he said it was because they didn’t trust me.I called back and complained to their receptionist, and she said that they always invoice after the job is completed. She spoke with the owner, and they then sent me an email with an invoice that I would have to approve if they were to come out and repair my door. (see attached) They not only doubled they hourly rate for work, but they also want me to hold them totally unresponsible for any past or future damage that they do. If they don’t know how to repair doors all I want is for them to return the door to the condition that they found it. If they can’t then I would like them to reimburse me for another experienced company to do so.
