"Urgent care" or "Recipe for Disaster"? I am a senior citizen with a large Cadillac truck. I am slowly beginning to feel like a walking, breathing target. I have a ten month old Chocolate Persian kitten. January, mid-winter, my kitten is sporting quite a heavy double layered coat. Today was abnormally warm for January, 61 degrees. Kitten is exactly what you would expect from a chocolate Persian, spoiled, petulant, over bred and a bit difficult. I told them this. At this time she will not eat. Took her to Pet Check Urgent Care. I am told to make my way into the clinic around 11:00. I arrive, there are no other cars, I park and wait "because there are no open rooms". Later we are led to a room by a young girl who takes my kitten's temperature, proceeds to tell me her temperature is very high and that for a cat that will not eat this is normally indicative of feline pancreatitis. She tells me this means the kitten has inflammation of the pancreas causing pain and fever and when the kitten tries to eat it causes her to associate pain with food. She recommends blood work and tests for pancreatitis and tells me there will be additional treatment and medications given. What she doesn't mention is, SHE IS NOT A VET.... $350 and two hours later I am slowly realizing my kitten has been diagnosed by a un-licensed child and I am very gullible. A few rude exchanges later and I am told I can leave. I take the cat to a real vet. Kitten has 103, 1/2 degree higher than 'normal', easily explained by a warm day in Jan, her double winter coat and the fact that she is basically terrified of being at a ************* Personally I wore a tee-shirt and nothing else. My Vet finds nothing, no sign of pain or discomfort, eyes clear, nasal passages clear, heart and lungs good, no blockages noted. I was so worried about the kitten, I came home with a nose bleed and collapsed. The only person who should be diagnosing and ordering tests is a licensed Vet. Period.
