I hired GCU Environmental to address lead identified in my home including the dining room wall doorway casing, exterior entry door casing, exterior entry door outer jamb, exterior entry door header jamb, kitchen back entry door inner and outer jamb, and kitchen back entry door stop and header jamb.GCU Environmental did not follow the instructions provided by the ********************************** Inspector. Despite my insistence that the notice called for a wet scrape method, the contractor dismissed my concerns, citing their experience. Consequently, the exterior door casing was left untouched, while the contractor hastily removed the door frames, resulting in damage to my walls and refrigerator encasement. Nails were left in the ceiling, paint splatter was evident, and gaps appeared between the door frames and floor. The quality of work completed was subpar, especially considering the price tag of $5,500. Unnecessarily, two perfectly good doors were replaced, and the installation was below standard. I will likely need to hire another contractor to rectify the work performed. After the project was completed, I had to contact the owner of GCU Environmental multiple times to address several issues. The replaced front door lacked a peephole, alarm sensors, doorstop, and doorbell were neglected during reinstallation, and staples remained in the crown molding and ceiling. Additionally, the dining room entry door exhibited protruding nails, posing a safety hazard, and the patchwork performed on the wall near the fridge and backdoor was unsightly. Moreover, the screen door leading to the backyard does not close properly.Considering these issues, I request the following resolutions:1. Reimbursement for the project cost, as the completed work does not meet industry standards and necessitates additional expenses to rectify the damages.2. Compensation for the costs incurred in hiring another contractor to address the deficiencies and complete necessary repairs.Business response

Good Morning.
The client at *************************************************** had a violation from the Nassau county department of health, Elevated lead levels in the blood of a child living in the house were reported to the *******************************. she hired me to correct and have the violation lifted. where there is lead based paint on impact surfaces such as doors, removal of the paint or encasing is the acceptable method. It is less expensive and safer to replace the door, jams/ frames than to remove the old paint. There were other components on the violation where encapsulation is acceptable such as the exterior casings. where encapsulation is acceptable the components were encapsulated, up to and included the exterior decorative moldings that although it was in very poor condition it was not listed on the violations items. we went back several times to satisfy the lady's complaints. The remediation was completed to the satisfaction of the ********************************** and the violation was lifted. a year later she puts in a complaint.

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:Firstly, I would like to address the matter concerning the ********************************** Lead Inspector, ******************************************** who can be reached at ************, and her Supervisor. As I mentioned previously, they both confirmed that the job was not completed as instructed in the document they provided. The items B1 (Exterior Entry Door Casing) and B2 (Exterior Entry Door Outer Jamb) of the ************* referred to the exterior molding. Despite this clarification, there was disagreement between he and the Inspector and her Supervisor about the interpretation of the provided document. Eventually, an agreement was reached, and he sent his staff back to paint over the peeling entry door casing to encapsulate the lead. However, it is essential to acknowledge that there was a genuine concern raised by the Inspector, and the work initially performed was not in line with their instructions.

Regarding his response to my complaint filed a year later, as a full-time working mom of young children, understand that life can get busy, and time passes quickly. However, I want to emphasize that my delay in bringing up the issues does not negate the validity of my concerns. Upon realizing that he would not appropriate action to correct the deficiencies caused by his workers, I immediately contacted him to express my dissatisfaction with the work performed. At that time, he even mentioned that he used the same guy at his home to complete projects, and he couldnt understand where this guys head was at or why he was doing poor work. Perhaps ensuring he was present would have ensured his staff completed the work well and not in haste. Additionally, during a conversation with ************************* from his office about paying the remaining bill, I reiterated my dissatisfaction with the quality of work. It is essential to address these matters promptly to ensure the longevity and safety of the repairs made in my home.
I want to make it clear that my intention is not to create conflict, but rather to seek a resolution that meets industry standards and the agreed-upon expectations. I firmly believe that a professional and reputable contractor like GCU Environmental Solutions should take pride in the services they provide and take responsibility for any deficiencies identified.
As a homeowner, it is my right to expect workmanship of a satisfactory standard, especially considering the significant financial investment made in hiring his company. Just as he would expect high-quality work if he were in my position, I believe it is only fair for me to demand the same. I am merely seeking the completion of the project as agreed upon and a resolution to the issues I have encountered.
I trust that he will take this matter seriously and work towards addressing the concerns raised. A prompt and satisfactory resolution would be greatly appreciated. As a consumer, I have every right to expect accountability and professionalism from the contractors I hire to work on my property.
I kindly request that ******* take ownership of the situation and take the necessary steps to rectify the deficiencies in the work performed. I am willing to cooperate and work towards an amicable resolution, but I also expect GCU Environmental Solutions to fulfill its responsibilities as a service provider.
