About four months ago I had taken my dog ****** to this vet as we have been taking our dogs to this vet for about 20 years to be treated for a physical and shots after rescuing her from the **** ** **** ******. When I had taken her and we had realized that she had a parasite in her for they had taken her back for a sample of her skin and when they were looking at her under the microscope they were all gagging behind the door as I was listening. They then prescribed my animal ********* **** As her medication that I was spending over $300 on just to come to find out that dogs were being killed Specifically from this medication I had only given her three doses of it and when I had called the vet to follow up on this medication and the things that it was doing to dogs they told me that unless my dog had died there was nothing they would do for me. I am filing this complaint because this business is extremely nasty to their clients not only the humans but the animals themselves I am now trying to find a new vet as this vet and business have completely shown that they are unprofessional and only care about money rather than the safety of the dogs and animals that come into their facility. It was more than just trying to get a refund for a medication that could’ve killed my dog that is not even one year old but you try and have a little bit of sympathy for a tragedy that could have easily happened to my new dog.

      Business response

      09/02/2022

This is in response to the complaint made by ******* *******, ID#********.

Ms. ******* has made two specific complaints in her letter: our lack of professionalism and our prescribing medication that she believes is fatal to dogs.  While professionalism is often subjective, the safety of a medication is not.

Ms. ******* claims that our staff was unprofessional while caring for her dog, ******, when gagging noises were heard in our laboratory while identifying a parasite.  Unfortunately, visceral reactions are sometimes difficult to suppress when confronted with the sight of certain organisms.  I can only apologize if this offended her.

The more serious accusation of prescribing a dangerous medication at a seemingly exorbitant price and refusing to address the situation is a result of misinformation.  ********* **** has been approved by the FDA for use in animals and has a significant safety record.  The only side effect of this medication that has been documented is in dogs that are predisposed to have seizure activity.  While there is no way to predict this condition in dogs, Ms. ******* has never informed us of any such activity in ****** despite his having received five doses of the medication, one from the adoption agency and four from our office, at a fraction of the $300 claimed by the owner. Since no reactions to the medication were reported by the complainant, no action was necessary.  The origin of this belief that ********* **** is fatal to dogs is unknown but deaths of dogs that have been positively associated with this medication would be routinely reported to the FDA.  A significant number of deaths would have resulted in recall of this product.

Further information cannot be shared at this time as some aspects of ******’s record are protected by HIPA regulations and requires owner consent for the release of those records.

Any further correspondence may be forwarded through the email you have on file.

      With regards,
