May 2021: Quote from HRS for roof replacement, 6 new windows, and chimney flashing/facia repair. July 2021: I paid a $6060.00 deposit for materials but naively did not insist on materials list or contract. Sept/Oct 2021 - numerous phone calls to HRS asking when work would begin. Many excuses. Oct 2021 - 6 windows delivered to my home (5 of one kind and 1 of another kind - one window broken) Last week of Oct 2020 - Dump trailer and work trailer dropped off. Most materials dropped off but not much of any work accomplished. Nov 3 & 4, 2021 - Roof further evaluated - broken rafters - additional materials needed. Nov 5, 2021 - New quote received for additional materials of $1,300.00. Was advised HRS doesn't work on Friday afternoons as he has to complete paperwork. Nov 8, 2020 - HRS at my home requesting additional money. I said then I wasn't too comfortable giving any more money as he hadn't done much of any work but reluctantly agreed as I could see the damaged rafters, etc. Additional $1,300 given by check. Additional materials delivered. Nov 9 through Nov 19 - HRS ripped off my existing shingle roof, repaired some of the rafter issues, used improper joist hangers to support the improper bird's mouth cuts he made. All roofing materials ripped off left in my yard and my neighbor's yard. Code Enforcement Officer showed HRS to deficient work and advised this work does not meet NYS Building Code. During this period, several issues appeared: 1) HRS is currently a one man operation. 2) He doesn't work weekends (he goes HUNTING). 3) He works multiple jobs at a time versus completing one before starting another (he told me it's his right!). Last work done on 11/23/21 - no work or contact until 12/7/21 when HRS came to my home to tell me "you have a problem" because he got hurt in an MVA. Early 2022 - phone call to HRS to request balance of materials be dropped off. He told my husband "**** you" and hung up on him. No contact since. Pix show current

First when she got in touch with me I told her doing her roof would be months away. she agreed. Because of covid -19  materials are taking a long time to come in. The roof had excessive water damage and was old do to water and  wear and tear it was a nightmare. I ordered all her materials 8 weeks later everything came in and I then started her roof. The building code man never said anything to me or wrote me up I told him what I could do with the bird cut with the way everything was presenting and he agreed. that was an extra cost in replaced defaulted wood! when I got to a point of doing the metal I realized I was they had shorted me 2 pieces I called and they said they will re order it but its going to be weeks again I explained this to ms. wheeler , she was not happy but there is nothing I can do! people don't understand how covid has pushed so much behind and the costs of everything has gone up. as far as swearing to her husband he was screaming at me on the phone.  as far as me not working weekends... no I don't along with many people in the world. as far as me being a one man band she knew this. the elderly gentlemen I did have working on and off left a awhile ago due to cancer. she knew I worked alone, as far as other jobs yes I do , this is what contractors do. Her supplies should be in any time and I can finish the job with the binding contract she signed or I can drop materials off and she pay me for what I had done so far. I have before and after pics if you need them.

      Thank you for your time

      Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
This response does not include insurance information I requested.  He advertises on his trailer he is "fully insured".  How does one go about getting this information if he refuses to divulge it?  His insurance company can review the matter and determine if I have a valid claim.  I have received ZERO voice mails or missed calls from Mr. Smith related to picking up his trailer from my yard.  As he knows, I also operate a business here in town and can be reached there daily. The question remains as to Mr. Smith's intention on completing the portion of the job he started.  Is he going to complete the work or not?

      Regards,

      ****** *******

P.S.  Mr. Smith never mentioned any elderly man who retired from his workforce.  He had his "roofing guys" quote the roof job in May and indicated it would only be a two week time-frame.  It was only after I'd handed him the $6,000 check in July that he told me about the materials taking 8-11 weeks for delivery.  When it came time to do the job (four months later), he was no longer affiliated with the roofers and stated he'd be doing the work himself since "nobody wants to work".  Since the work began, I've never been o.k. with any of this long timeline, lack of urgency and sloppiness/disrespect to my home and property.  I've had multiple calm, assertive conversations with Mr. Smith asking for completion timelines, material clean up, material delivery, and stated to him that this wasn't intended to be a life project.

This individual should NOT have a 5/5 rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Thank you for your help with this matter.

As I had previously stated as soon as YOUR stuff which is on back order comes in... I will be there. I don't know how many times this can be said, It is NOT my fault! the order is not here. Believe me when it gets here you will be the first to know. If you want my work trailer out of your yard call me let me know. MY work trailer is there with my roofing tools are all in that work trailer.  Obviously when your back order comes in which when i called they said soo.  I would be there. If you don't want me there let me know.  I have to get back to work now. sincerelyMr Smith

I previously filed a complaint with BBB and foolishly closed it. Briefly, I paid a deposit for roofing work in May 2021. Mr. Smith tore roof off in Nov. 2021 and stopped work early Dec 2021 when he had a car accident. The work that was done does not comply with local zoning standards. I've had another contractor quote finishing the job and he tells me there aren't enough materials here to do the work

I want the contact information for Mr. Smith's liability insurance provider so I can file a claim. AND he'll need to re-do much of what's been done as it's not correct.

As I’ve stated before and this case was closed. All the materials came in it is ALL there the building inspector said absolutely nothing was wrong she’s clearly stated that I am not on the job anymore and that she has hired another contractor working on the job,Yet states I have to come back and redo things ! when you let a contractor go and don’t want them back.  They don’t come back and redo things that are all right and correct she signed a binding contract and then kicked me off the job before and this case was closed all the material came in. She complained about everything always and has now hired someone else. We are done.

The ONLY one breaching a contract is YOU.  I hired YOU.  I got a quote from another company to correct the errors and complete the work you've left undone since November 2021 but you are the only company I've hired.  I paid YOU a deposit of over $7000 in July 2021 to DO THE WORK.  Not to provide materials but to complete the work you quoted and said your company was competent to complete.  No work was started until November 2021. Then, you spent approximately 3 weeks tearing off my roof - never cleaned up the debris - and began installation of new roof.  On 12/7/21, after disappearing/no contact for over a week, you came to my house with a cast on your left wrist - saying you'd been in an auto accident, that you'd been in the hospital, had screws and pins in your wrist and told me "you've got a problem".   In both April and May of 2022, you told me you had upcoming surgery on your left shoulder due to nerve damage from the accident.  It's been SIX MONTHS with NO WORK, no good faith on your part, JUST EXCUSES AND HOSTILITY toward your customer.  And now you say you never told me there was an auto accident and you couldn't work because of it?? Amazing!  So, Ron, where the heck have you been for the past six months if you weren't injured???

I'm waiting for your Insurance Company's name, address, phone number and your policy number for your Liability Insurance.  The insurance company can decide if I have a claim after evaluating the situation.  If you don't have Liability Insurance, then you aren't "fully insured" as you advertise.  You can provide it to the BBB if you prefer so it isn't visible on this site.

I hired Mr. S**** back in January 2021 to do several jobs in my house. He has not completed one job. His shotty craftsmanship and the time it took to work on jobs was ridiculous. In September I gave him 2 weeks to complete all jobs or I wanted a refund, he asked almost begged me to give him the 2 weeks which I did. 2 months later I had enough and fired him. He has removed materials from my garage that I paid for. After I fired him, he tried to gain entry into my house without me being there. I called the sheriffs office and they very nicely told him he was trespassing and could not get his tools when I was not home. He has had tools at my house since July. So he has had an ample amount of time to take them, but he used my backyard as a storage space. I would not hire his company as he takes money and completes nothing. He uses the excuse that he would’ve finished if I didn’t fire him, but the truth is he has had enough time to complete all my jobs twice over but only spent maybe 5 hours a week on my house. He also doesn’t show receipts of materials purchased to his clients. Only invoices which means he has something to hide!

I want to add I never begged for anything! if she gave me 2 weeks in September?  why was I there in till almost the end of  October? I have time stamped pics. She has gone through many contractors in the past and never mind telling me about them. That should have been a red flag. Things take time to do and do right!  Also as a contractor I have the right to work on more then 1 project I'm 1 person. Since this pandemic supplies are taking longer to come everyone wants things done fast. She is mad over the contractors bundle! that she did not pay for. she paid per piece not charged for the bundle. This is where this is coming from because I put what I did not use in my truck and the new contractor who is doing the bathroom the one I said no to, told her. As a contractor he should have seen it was a bundle, and know that the costumer pays per piece.

      Thank you

      Ron S****
