Affordable Concrete LLC out of East SParta ohio was subcontracted by ********* ******* * ************ out of canton ohio, to dig footers and pour the foundation on July 6th. On July 7th they took out credit with with ***** ****** ****** for supplies in the amount of $1148.25. I paid ********* 22000 on 5-18-2023 and they paid them for their portion of the project which they ended up keeping and not paying the supplier. On 9-2-2023 I was served with a mechanics lien for Affordable concrete not paying their portion. Their only explanation is they just forgot because they have been busy. I would assume they received a bill from the company and follow ups about non-payment. Both ********* and Affordable claim they will pay it but nobody jumped to pay it as soon as they found out. I'm asking them to pay immediately as I can not do anything with the house with a mechanics lien attached to it.Customer response

In October of 2021 I had hired Steve from affordable concrete service to redo my driveway. He was the highest price estimate I had got out of 3 estimates. November 1st Steve and his guys came and started on the driveway one week later they got done with the driveway. A week after the driveway was done I noticed that the driveway wasn’t properly graded when it rained there would be big puddles of water. So I called him back out a second time to check it out and he ended up replacing two slabs of concrete where the water mostly sat. In January of 2021 a couple months later I noticed a lot of cracking in my driveway. About 8 slabs had surface cracks and some was worser then that. One slab of concrete was starting to raise up from against my house. So I called Steve in mid March to check it out and he did I showed him all the cracking and told him that wasn’t normal for a new driveway to be cracking the way mines was. I told him I paid way to much money for it not to be done right the first time that I was trying to work with him to get this resolved. About a month later I haven’t heard back from him regarding my driveway on what he planned on doing about it. This will be the 3rd time he would have to come out to fix’s this driveway that should have been right the first time. The finish work on the driveway could have been a lot better now that I look at it closer. But my main concern is getting these cracking slabs replaced or money back on this driveway because in maybe 5 or 6 years it will need to be replaced. Concrete driveways done right will usually last a minimum of 20 years.. I feel like the base was not prepared properly before pouring the concrete. Not enough base rock…Business response

we started the job at the beginning of November to tear bout and replace his driveway. We had an issue with some ponding so we replaced that section of the driveway. Now he is complaining about some hairline cracks in the driveway. When I was there in March to look at the drive none of the hairline cracks were wider than the 3mm considered to be acceptable from the ******** ******** Institute. When we were on site we added additional stone base as it was needed. The east side of the driveway had a railroad tie wall that the bottom course was higher than the elevation of the new concrete. Before there was block sitting on the old driveway so water could flow easily under the railroad tie wall. We discussed building a ********* wall but the home owner did not want to spend the addition funds. So we placed a curb to retain the bottom of the railroad tie wall. We have no way to know if that could contribute to letting water get under the driveway and being trapped during the winter. The freeze and thaw that we had this year is a major reason why concrete can crack. We do feel that we can be held responsible for concrete cracking. We replaced the ponding area because that in our opinion was are mistake and we try to stand behind all of our work. We do not feel that a full refund is at all acceptable.Customer response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I was not told none of this information before I had gotten the driveway extended to the railroad tines and up beside my house. For someone who says they have over 20 years of experience I would expect the company to have warned me about something like this happening. However I wasn’t. I do feel that some kind of refund should be due back to me due to the cracking because in 5 years or so I know it will be a bigger problem then what it already is.
Regards,
