My husband and I hired Buckeye Restoration for our home remodel. We completed a complete kitchen remodel, all new flooring, new baseboards, new trim and we smoothed our ceilings in the main room (living/kitchen) and two hallways. Once the work was ending, the ceiling tape in two locations of the main space (living and kitchen) cracked, as well as one location against the wall and the ceiling in the kitchen above one set of cabinets. I contacted the company a few times trying to see when this could get resolved. Eventually the company sent out painters to fix the issue. The painters were unable to fix the issue, because they were not cosmetic problems from the paint. The painter contacted the company and discussed that it was the tape that had cracked in two locations due to excess wetting during the smoothing process of our ceiling. The painters left and the company did not contact me to resolve the issue. I contacted the company via text to check in when the issue would be resolved and I was told I would have to pay for the damages to be fixed, I was told I would have to pay because it wasn't in the "original scope" of their work. You can clearly see in the documents provided that work to our ceiling was in fact in the original scope of the work. The ceiling was not cracked prior to their employees touching it. This company is supposed to guarantee their work, however, when asked to do so, they insist it is not their responsibility. Due to their lack of resolve over a simple problem that they created, I began to look further into their work and their work processes. I learned that the company did not schedule a final inspection for our plumbing, they only scheduled a rough inspection. The city of Columbus has yet to sign off on the plumbing that was completed. Due to this, I had a licensed plumber inspect their work and I was told that it was not completed properly and the way it was completed would not have passed a final inspection through the city

In response to Customer complaint #******** in which we were asked to respond to a drywall issue on the ceiling, we submit the following. We asked our painter to fix what the Owner described as a cosmetic issue. Once the painter had a chance to look at the ceiling and report back, it was discovered that the drywall tape had come loose. The Owner was asking for something outside of the scope of our job description, which did not include replacing or fixing pre-existing drywall tape. The Owner's request for a repair to a pre-existing issue would have been specified between line items #22 and #23 of the estimate or in a Change Order. Line item #21 is for wall drywall repair that was needed once a non-bearing closet wall was removed at the entry where the Kitchen and Family room are. As per our discussion with the homeowner, this is not the area in question.

The Owner was very involved in looking over all work performed, and all work was completed in full before we turned it over to the homeowner. The Owner requested and did some of the finish painting. Also, the Owner had a neglected, deteriorated, shingled roof that was leaking into the inside and was being replaced around the same time. We offered to have the drywaller provide an estimate for the pre-existing tape joint repair, but the Owner declined. Please note that all plumbing work was performed by a licensed plumber. In regard to inspections, we did get all necessary inspections, including the final inspection which was approved on October 07, 2021. Our goal is to always have satisfied customers!

The response provided by the business is false and not accurate. 1.) The roof was not replaced until 2 weeks after the home remodel project was completed. I have a contract and receipt to prove that. 2.) The business was made aware of the crack in the ceiling prior to and again during final walk through. 3.) Homeowner never made comments that the damages were cosmetic in order to have a painter fix the issues, that was the businesses account. 4.) The tape was never cracked or hanging prior to the home remodel by the business.  4.) The city of Columbus does not have my plumbing permit signed off on for final inspection, nor was I, the home owner given a copy of my plumbing permit.  Again, this can be proven.

The response from the business is a complete false, inaccurate and in disregard of all responsibility of their work and they are not abiding to their guarantee of said work.

Regarding the issue of the plumbing inspection named in the above referenced complaint, I have attached the paperwork approving both the rough and final plumbing inspections. It is our understanding that recently the Customer's family member (a plumber) pointed out an issue that the Inspector did not supposedly see. The customer then had the Inspector return (six months later), at which time it was disapproved until fixed. Our licensed plumber then spoke to the City Inspector who confirmed that this minor issue did need addressed and recommended that our plumber call the Owner to schedule a time to fix it. Our plumber called the same day and informed the Owner that he would need only 20 minutes to fix the issue, but the Customer declined. She stated that she wanted someone else to complete this repair.

Concerning the existing ceiling tape joint repair, our drywaller at first wanted $200.00 to repair it. He then reconsidered and offered to do this at no charge to the Owner to help resolve the complaint. The Customer declined. We also informed the Customer that we would consider an alternate Contractor's estimate (of her choice) on their letterhead for possible reimbursement. The Customer once again declined.

At this time, we feel that we have made a good faith effort.

I have personally resolved the plumbing issue with the plumbing company.  I do not accept regarding the issue of the tape joint considering I was told they would fix our ceiling 6 months ago, then when they learned it would require more than caulk wanted to charge me for something I have already paid for, then acted like the drywaller would do it for "free" after going to the BBB for the company to address the issue.  I actually offered the company one month ago to be sent a bill for the repair from another dry wall company and was rejected for that option as well.  I will not take any resolve from this business unless it is in the form of money back to me personally for our repairs that way they cannot reject to pay for them again.  The company suggested they would only "consider" paying for the repairs from another company as long as it was "reasonable", I have that in a voicemail and in writing and apparently they will determine what is considered "reasonable".  I have yet to be given an amount from the company.  I am still confused where a cost of repair of $200 comes from as the business never sent a drywaller to our home to assess the issue.  I had a drywaller from a reputable company out to assess the issue on 30 Mar 2022 and it was learned that the entire tape joint needs repair due to the over wetting of the tape, which will cost more than $200.  If the company is unwilling to provide me a reasonable refund, then I will not be closing my complaint or considering it resolved.  The complaint can stay on record with the BBB as well as a review.
