Our home was severely damaged on August 10, 2021. We hired Taylor companies of Ohio to be the contractor to rebuild our house in early September. ***** Taylor the owner has consistently missed voicemails, text messages, and emails. We have heard excuses from the beginning such as I did not get your voicemail, I did not see your email, I missed your text messages. Since early September the work performed to our home by Taylor companies is as follows: partial demolition, rough framing(that has yet to be inspected), rough electrical(that has been inspected and passed), Three windows, two doors, and the roof has been shingled. The roofers shingled over broken and rotted plywood instead of replacing the plywood. There are nail heads showing along with crooked lines. We reached out to ***** out asking for a resolution on February 20, 2021 and have yet to receive anything more than broken promises to meet and discuss. The original costing and quoting has not been completed as of yet. Any discussion thus far of costing has been done verbally and has been extremely higher with Taylor than other contractors that I have checked with. Our house is uninhabitable therefore we have had to be placed in a rental. The homeowners that were gracious enough to rent us their home, want their house back ASAP.

This complaint is to bring the Better Business Bureau’s attention to the business practices of Taylor Companies of Ohio located at 4200 Mogadore Rd, Kent, OH 44240 and seek your assistance.
Taylor Companies of Ohio, (TCO) was contracted in the Fall of 2018 to replace and install a front door and surrounding trim work at **** ********* ** *** ***** ******* ** ***** at the home of ******* and ***** *******.
      Following summary and timeline:

-Taylor Companies of Ohio was contracted however they did not provide the complainant with a written estimate or a contract to sign
-Installation began and was completed the last week of December 2018
-I notified TCO December 31, 2018 of continuing water leaks related to their workmanship (leaks located at each side at the base of the door)
-Soon after a visual inspection of their work product was completed TCO offered us verbal remedies to address their workmanship.  No physical remedy was completed by TCO
-I contacted and made continual requests through the Spring of 2019 without TCO responding
-I contacted TCO on August 29, 2019 –(no response from TCO)
-I contacted TCO on December 2, 2019 –(no response from TCO)
      -I contacted TCO on December 5 through 13, 2019 – TCO agreed to re-inspect the site (December 13, 2019)
-I contacted TCO on  December 30, 2019 – explaining that leaking continues- (no response from TCO)
-I contacted  TCO on January 7, 2020 – (no response from TCO)
-I contacted TCO  January 22 and 23, 2020 – arrangements made suggesting owner of Taylor Companies of Ohio’s willingness to re-inspect
-I contacted TCO February 3, 2020 – I did not receive a response, the  Owner was unavailable to inspect due to other appointments (inspection by company Owner went uncompleted)
-I contacted TCO  February 7, 2020 – re-inspection was refused due to COVID pandemic
-May 2020 I contracted another company/vendor to remedy Taylor Company of Ohio’s workmanship
-TCO contacted me October 2, 2020 suggesting their desire to physically remedy their workmanship.  Discussion had advising physical repairs were completed by another company.
-Taylor Companies of Ohio presented an invoice to me which was promptly paid in full.
-Taylor Companies of Ohio did not provide me with a physical copy of the invoice or receipt
-I contacted TCO November 2, 2021 – explaining new leak has presented itself (leaks located at each side at the top of the door).  I was advised that they would re-inspect on November 4, 2021.  Upon re-inspection, TCO again offered verbal remedies to address their workmanship.

-On November 6, 2021 I found trapped water between the flashing and trim work.
-I contact TCO November 6, 2021 providing feedback and requesting contact from Taylor Companies of Ohio’s Owner.
      Remedy Sought:
Based on TCO’s inability to perform the necessary repairs and the continuing damage done to our home by their poor workmanship we feel justified in asking for full reimbursement of all payments made to Taylor Companies of Ohio ($3,622.81).
We are hopeful that TCO will respond favorably to our requested remedy, should they not, we are requesting that we avail ourselves of the BBB’s Member Arbitration process and utilize a three person Arbitration Panel to resolve this issue. We will be represented by our attorney *** ******** ******** at the hearing.

Thank you for reaching out about the attached complaint.  I spoke with the homeowner last evening.  There are a few variables to the issues with the door that he left out of his report to BBB.  We have agreed to wait till a representative from ProVia Doors comes out to the house and reviews the door unit.  At that time, we will agree to a resolution to the problem.  please let us know if you need anything further in the meantime.

       Dear *** *********,

In an effort to continue the ongoing investigation and leave this BBB complaint open I've rejected Taylor Companies of Ohio's (TOC) response.  Post my initial complaint submission, I the homeowner, acknowledge an issue found potentially related to a manufacture (ProVia) defect and warranty.  ProVia's  investigation of the matter pends.  However for the bureau's and the homeowner's full understanding of TOC's response may we request an explanation of the "variables to the issues" along with a detailed timeline TOC references in their response?

      Thank you,

      **** *******

[[BBB TRANSCRIPTION OF CLOSED DUPLICATE COMPLAINT ID #16416367 FILED ON 12/31/2021]]

This response is in a continuation of complaint #********. ProVia Company the manufacturer of the door inspected the door finding it defective and determined they will replace it at their cost. However ProVia's warranty will not cover installation fees. It was suggested by Taylor Companies of Ohio (TOC) that I contact another home improvement company to obtain a reinstallation quote for the replacement door, which I did. I contacted another BBB member home improvement company to obtain a quote. Upon completion of their inspection they determined simply removing and reinstalling the door was not an option as there are other recognizable leaks due to the improper installation by TOC. Because of TOC's improper installation I'm forced to have all of the surrounding trim work, moldings and flashings removed and replaced properly at my cost. As the consumer I feel it unjust to have to pay for the materials and installation of moldings, trim and flashing the second time. I'm requesting that TOC reimburse all payments to me totaling $3,622.81. Please understand this total of $3,622.81, is not the full cost associated with the re-installation of the new door, trim, moldings and flashing . Throughout this entire process Taylor Companies of Ohio never took responsibility for the problems associated with this door installation.

[[BBB TRANSCRIPTION VIA TELEPHONE CALL WITH THE BUSINESS ON 2/1/2022]]

Business owner stated they will not be giving the consumer a billing adjustment. The business stated the consumer purchased the door originally from a hardware store which went through ProVia. The business has only been paid 50% of the project. The business has been to the consumer's home three times already. They stated there were issues with the door prior to it even being installed. There is a huge window that hangs above the door in the foyer. It could possibly be causing a leak? The business only charged the consumer $3,000 when they should've charged $7,000 for the type of job it entailed. He also stated multiple people have been to the consumer's home from other businesses and he's not positive what has been done to the door since. The business stated this has been going on for the last year or so. The agent from ProVia was supposed to visit the home and cancelled due to covid, which delayed things as well. Which is when the consumer started leaving negative reviews on line against Taylor. ProVia reviewed the door and admitted it was their issue and it's covered under their warranty. ProVia approved the door replacement and all the consumer had to do was order with a confirmed stain color. The labor is not included. The consumer is welcome to contact Taylor if they wish to have them install it or contact another contractor.

I am rejecting this response because:
As the home owner, my interest in pursuing arbitration through the
bureau remains.  The business' response does not address or acknowledge their improper installation of the trim and molding.  I will stress my complaint is not that of warranty rather poor craftmanship.  I will pursue having the new door installed.  In addition to the door I have no choice but to have all of the trim and molding replaced.  This will be completed by another accredited BBB member.  Upon doing so and at the time of demolition I will photograph the cause of water leakage.  After documentation supporting my position is available I will ask the bureau to reopen this complaint for a 3 panel arbitration hearing.  For review attached to this response are the areas of concern as well as a communication with an employee of the business.  Finally please be aware the door installation tentative date of completion is April or May of 2022.

      Thank you,
