We had Kelco Hardwood Floors, Inc. Come out to our property and give us a quote to do our entire first floor, office and stairs. They quoted us $12,600.30 to do everything. We agreed to that price. We at the time left a $1300 deposit for the wood in the office. Our family was going on a vacation that June and we wanted everything done while we were out of town. When we spoke with Mike, his son and their office manager, they told us the total included everything. Install new wood floors in the office, sand down and stain the entire first floor, new risers & treads for the stairs and stain. We repeated several times what needed to be done and they even gave us updates when the new risers and treads were going to come in so they can install them. Once we came back from our vacation. Only half of the job was finished. Office was done properly and it looks great. They didn't even TOUCH the stairs because they said they didn't realize how much work it was. The floors and the office floors don't even match in color. After several calls to Mike, which he refused to answer our phone calls or text messages for 3 weeks, we finally got ahold of him and they are refusing to do anything about it. He said there was a miscommunication between him and his office manager as far as what was quoted and what needed to be done (NOT MY PROBLEM). Now 5 months later my house is still in shambles and stars are not done, floors look like crap and I am not satisfied. Mike reached out and said he would make an adjustment from the original quote of $12,600.30 down to $11,265.30 since they didn't do the stairs. I don't think we are even close to making this right. He is still trying to bill us for the full job $9965.30 after our initial deposit of $1300. I am not paying $9965.30 for a job that looks like crap and wasn't even completed and they bailed on us. Its extremely unprofessional how they handled this whole situation. $2000 is most I am willing to pay to offset this invoice. Thats is it.

We have a lot of work into this property. The stain color was approved by the customers prior to work being done. The stain is the same color on the same wood so there is no reason for a color difference. Additionally, the final invoice did not include the stairs, we did not bill them for any work that was not done. At this point we are willing to provide a discount of $1,465.30, bringing the total amount owed on the invoice to $8,500.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

      Regards,

They lied, did a crap job, and never finished the project. I am not paying them $8000! Absolutely NOT. $3000 is all I am willing to pay to resolve this manner. If they don't agree I will be taking them to small claims court

Kelco Hardwood Floors did not lie to this customer. We stand by our reputation. We installed, sanded, stained, and finished their hardwood floors to a beautiful job. We have pictures to prove it. We tried from the beginning to arrange for a neutral inspector from The Hardwood Flooring Association to come into their home to determine if our job was done right. The customer refused to let them in. We invoiced them only for what we completed on their job. In 28 years of servicing the communities, this is the first complaint we have ever received.

We are willing to accept a reduced amount of $8000.00 to settle this dispute and put it behind us.
