I was quoted $300 to complete this job.

I have an ongoing problem and in the past few months the company was going to put step-flashing to correct the problem of water getting in behind it with the flashing cut too short around the chimney and not under the shingles to prevent this leaking. I paid them what they had asked for by check and I made it out to him personally, I think. They were to come back to fix the leak and the drywall replaced (but they mudded it instead), but after the first rain it was still leaking badly.

I have called and texted repeatedly to let him know that it did not work properly but they have not responded. Since they were paid per their quote I was then told that they do not work for free and that I would be responsible for paying for additional materials to correct their mistakes.

Nobody has contacted me and I still have the leaking and damaged drywall again. They were paid to do a job to correct the leak. I paid what I was quoted. To resolve this issue I want the necessary corrections to be made to prevent leaking as it should have been done originally and to have covered the cost of the drywall replacement.

I do not feel I owe them more money to pay for materials that were necessary only as a product of their mistake. I want the job completed properly as contracted, repairs from the continued leaking done, and have a zero dollar balance to them.

Good Morning, Hillcrest was never on this roof! Norman

      Customer response

      12/12/2022

I am rejecting this response because: we agree they did not do the roof.

They were hired to replace the old flashing on the chimney with new flashing.

The first time they came out we paid them $300 in cash. It leaked, so I called them, and they returned, and said water was getting behind the sub-flashing, so he replaced it with new flashing, but cut it too short.

Then Louis returned on November 12th. His number is  ************. He patched the drywall in my garage and my girlfriend wrote a $35 check to Norman's son Louis Y****.

Louis brought another man with him, and I do not know his name.

They did not give me an estimate, invoice or receipt for any of the work.  I have a card from Louis Y**** with his number and text messages from his as well dated 10.26.22 apologizing but saying he would come to take care of the drywall.

      Regards,
      ****** *****

-Buy house with new roof installed by Hillcrest in 2021. -New roof begins leaking with summer storms in 2022. Wet spots in multiple locations. -Try to pull permit to see who installed roof. Find out it wasn't permitted. -Get Hillcrest's information from previous owner. Try to contact them for weeks with no response. Don't answer phone and full voicemail box. -Have two independent roofers inspect while waiting for return call. Each believes the leak is due to an install issue at the flashing where the upper and lower roofs meet. -Finally hear back from Hillcrest. Norman (owner) comes out after several failed scheduling attempts, acknowledges issue while onsite, apologizes, and promises to come back the following week to fix at no cost. -Ghosted for several more weeks. -Norman's son finally comes out with same day notice, is confrontational, walks back father's promise to fix at no cost. -Son leaves performing no work. Says he'll talk to his father and review paperwork for warranty. -Receive text from son claiming that they will honor workmanship warranty if it was included with install (photo attached). -Don't hear back for over a week. -Finally get a text saying that paperwork does not include warranty (photo attached). Refuse to provide paperwork. -Obtain paperwork from previous owner clearly showing 5-year Hillcrest workmanship warranty (photo attached). Blatantly contradicts what I had been told by son. -Ask Hillcrest to schedule a time for repair based on their (second) promise to honor a workmanship warranty, with paperwork as proof it was provided. -Receive the attached text denying service. Note that nobody had threatened any legal action. My new roof leaks and it will likely be thousands of dollars to repair based on quotes. Hillcrest doesn't appear to be licensed to work in Columbus, didn't pull a permit, and acknowledged that the leak was due to an install issue.
