I asked the contractor to come over to my house for an estimate on work due to a water leak. The company rep came over and stated I had to sign something so he could contact my insurance and we could look at the scope of work. instead, they billed me for a free estimate that I never received until 90 days later after the work was completed. they used sales tactics to think I was doing one thing but it was another. then they use the estimate as a charge to bill me for $3414.58 which was never approved by me or the insurance provider. I never heard anything from the contractor besides the one visit to come over for the free estimate. They have now placed a lien on the property and trying to force me to pay them when no work, no materials, no services besides a free estimate was provided. They made no attempt to coordinate work or anything with me besides billing me for an estimate that was not used or accepted. I should not be charged for an estimate that they provide freely. The estimate provided was $3000.00 more than what the insurance company would have paid for their services. I asked them for a second opinion because I wanted to ensure things were covered during the repairs, but they made no effort to resolve this matter. They just sent me a bill saying they did something which they offer for free. I was told I had to sign so he could contact the insurance company and never disclosed the details or allowed me time to review them before agreement.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/09) */ **************************************************************************************************************** I spoke with the customer on Monday Dec 6th to discuss invoice. Customer stated he did not use us for the repairs and does not understand why we have an unpaid bill. I explained we provided his insurance company with an estimate and then a detailed scope of work because he signed up with us for the repairs at first. We were able to get our scope approved on his behalf and we understand he later did not use us for the repairs but, we retain the 10% overhead and 10% profit for representing his loss to his insurance company pursuant to our contract terms. He stated he went with a different company that did the repairs for much less money. I let him know it was our understanding that his insurance company approved our scope's price and paid him the higher amount. Customer stated he would try to get confirmation from his insurance company that our scope was never paid or approved. I am waiting to hear back from him at this time. I will reach out to him again.
