H.E.R. Roofing installed the new roof on my house July 11, 2023 for a total cost of $26,000. I was under the understanding that the lack of ventilation would be corrected, it was not, that I would not have the old-fashioned knobby vents on top of the roof, which for some reason that's what I got, that if mold-mitigation was necessary I would be informed WHILE the roof was removed, I was not, and that my roof would look better with a new roof: the siding looks as if a five year old did the cutting and the plastic "flashing" (not sure if that's the correct terminology) is showing and looks cheap as if I had a cut-rate roofer do the job when I spent $26,000! That should be a top-of-the-line roof/job but it's not. It's a terrible job and I regret that I allowed H.E.R. Roofing to install my new roof. It looks terrible. Now I need to have ANOTHER contractor fix everything that was done shoddily, to the tune of ~$5,000.

I attached a picture of the roof... the "knobby vents" are the square vents on the roof. The owner wanted an intake vent, but we could not do that due to the pitch of her roof. It's a 3/12 and it's not recommended by the manufacturer. Also, It not recommended to hire another contractor to install it, due to the high probability that it would leak.
As far as the mold, I informed the owner in the beginning to hire a mold abatement company. As they treat mold on wood products. We can't see or feel mold on top of the roof.
      Thank you,
Please let me know if I can address anything else.

      Thank you,

      ****

FYI- I submitted this 3 times now and my attachments aren't going through and it's making me retype it. Also, photos aren't going through and it's under the size limit.

I am rejecting this response because:

I had my trusted general contractor look at my roof to see if the other type of vents could have been installed and he gave me an answer of absolutely, you have plenty of pitch. Also, the siding appears to have been cut by an amateur and looks terrible: its uneven and unfinished. The black plastic flashing (?) is showing and makes it look even more unfinished. I now have to get a contractor to add additional ventilation and, because the roof also looks terrible, I now have to pay more money for repairs so it actually looks as if it was completed by a professional.

      Sincerely,

A general contractor is not a roofing contractor and not an expert in our field. If they/he/she would have measured the pitch of the roof they would find it's too low. A contractor can't look at it and determine the pitch, they have to measure it. Also, which brand intake vent are they using? ...because all of them require a minimum pitch.

Also, the siding we never cut, it was already liked that. my photos won't upload.

      Thank you-

SorryI was out of town and not able to get to this in with allotted time, which is very short.

My response to the most recent communication from H.E.R. Roofing is that she knew the pitch of the roof before she began the work so why was I not informed before the work began that the pitch was not sufficient to install the modern vents? Also, I still dont understand why the ventilation under the ***** wasnt completed. Once she and another roofing company both told me that there was a lack of ventilation under the *****, I was expecting that to be completed also. I should have gone to a company that installed a whole roofing system.

I'm sorry- ***** is no longer with the company and this e-mail went to the junk mailbox.

We measure the pitch upon initial inspection and we have to re-measure after the roof is torn off to see if it changes. Pitch should always be measured from the lowest slope. I did discuss the low pitch on initial inspection and told the customer that I couldn't include intake (which is the low profile vents she is writing about) until we confirm the pitch and attic. I looked up all the estimates and see that none of the include intake (we itemized estimates).

Also, we never estimated soffit vents. We have done soffit vents in the past, but our pricing is higher because of our insurances required to work on the roof. Regardless, we never estimated soffit vents.

I am rejecting this response because: Im not a roofer so if you use terminology like soffit vents that means nothing to me. I had explicitly said I want to put solar on our roof as its perfect for solar and now Im not sure how that will work. I would have gladly paid extra for different vents but the options should have been communicated to me. I also thought everything would be completed with ventilation as part of the roofing system. We still dont have cross-ventilation. As stated before, my general contractor, which, in order to get a license as a general contractor has to have knowledge of ALL things contracting, including roofs, has stated we have plenty of pitch. We still have black flashing that is extremely prominent that did not show before. It looks unfinished and frankly, cheesy. There was a severe lack of communication all along. I wont be satisfied until the flashing, vents and ventilation are corrected. Im aware at this point this may never happen. Im extremely unsatisfied.

      Sincerely,
