I hire CJS construction to remove and replace floors on my home. After getting proposal and agreeing upon the price which was higher than other estimates, Chuck asked for cash to avoid the IRS. I paid 1/2 with a check and 1/2 in cash for a total of $10,000.00. The work was done in late December of 2022 and within 3 months, the floors started popping, the interior doors wouldn’t open, the exterior doors had daylight shining through. I repeatedly called and texted to get Chuck back out and he came several times, but did no remediation work. Chuck blamed it on the floor manufacturer (Pro Source) and then blamed it on (Home Depot) where he purchased the flooring. I discovered most of the problems by bringing in other floor contractors to determine the issues. We found out that we did not let the plywood or flooring acclimate to the temperatures before installing, we found out he didn’t nail the plywood to the joists, we found out he didn’t level the floor properly, we found out he left huge (3”-4”) gaps against the wall, we also discovered he damaged most of stained trim in the whole first floor, we found out he scratched my newly painted house near all the trim and left leveler on the walls. I gave Chuck several months to repair, but he had an excuse every time he was supposed to show up and fix. He need repaired anything and even asked if I could get him in with an asphalt company I know. This is horrible and I’m looking to pursue a complete remove and replace the whole flooring on the first floor that he tried to do.Customer response

please see attached pictures showing the damage, floors popping, nails not into joists, threshold mess, contract, payment request in cash for 1/2 do avoid IRS, request for help for other companies and the numerous excuses for not showing up to repair the work Chuck was paid for. He’s blamed everyone and taking no responsibility. I have had three contractors here who all told me it needs removed and replaced. I’m looking for a total refund of $10,000.00. Which I paid 1/2 by check and 1/2 cash at Chuck’s request.See Attachments
