Mr. Hogancamp came to my home on 6/24/2022 to provide an estimate for work to be done, including the painting of three rooms, the removal of wall-mounted speakers and tv wall mount and necessary patching of residual holes, and the installation of three ceiling fans (pre-purchased by me). He signed a contract to this effect on 7/1/2022 with assurances that he would complete this work by 7/8/2022. I paid him $1000, a bit more than half his estimate, as a good-faith deposit. Mr. Hogancamp was very slow to start and to execute the work as promised, making assurances and excuses that he was getting to it and justifying his negligence to the agreed-upon deadline by claiming that I was not yet moved into the home and he could therefore take his time. I informed Mr. Hogancamp that my relocation timeline was not subject to his interpretation and we had made an agreement that he was not honoring. After prompting him several times and inquiring about the lack of progress on the project, Mr. Hogancamp continued to ignore the work. When I reached out to him to request a refund due to noncompliance with the parameters we discussed, he became belligerent and abusive; when I asked him where I might send a letter requesting a refund, he told me I was harassing him. I could - and will, should I need to - share text message exchanges wherein Mr. Hogancamp exhibited highly inappropriate and unprofessional behavior. Mr. Hogancamp exploited the fact that I am a single working mother and that I was not present in the home to oversee his progress; he violated not only the terms of our agreement but also my trust and faith in him as a human being. When I first requested a refund, he refused the amount I requested and instead offered an unacceptable $400 (email included); he later refused to refund any of my money whatsoever, and told me it was enough that he was "leaving (me) alone" and "moving on." I am not only concerned about recovering my good-faith deposit, I'm concerned for my safety.Business response

In response to ***************,
I find this entire situation to be very sad and unfortunate and was totally avoidable. I was two and a half days from finishing this project and the rug was literally pulled right out from under me! When I took this job on I made it clear that I was extremely busy and booked with two other huge jobs and that this job would not take priority because the resident wasn't even living there. At first ******* was very understanding and reasonable, she was very playful and flirty and joked and teased around. She stated numerous times that she understood that I was extremely busy and overwhelmed with jobs, and that she knew things were getting done and that she wasn't even going to be around for awhile cause her health and her sons wasn't good, my only goal was to be done before she moved in, which would have happened had she just let me do my job. During this time, she asked me if I could stop over to cut and trim the lawn, AND I DID!! She asked if I could stop over and remove and dispose of the glass shower doors AND I DID!! She asked me on at least 3 occasions if I could stop by and put packages that came inside for her so they wouldn't be stolen, AND I DID!! I went above and beyond to help this person, cause I felt bad for her life story and health status! I don't have to hang my head, I can account for every dollar of the deposit I received! I did extensive patching and crack repairs, removed ceiling lights, removed speakers and wires and patched holes and drywall repairs, bought materials for the job such as paint, compound, patches, tape. I had all the prep and tedious work done and was ready to finish off painting. When she said she has other guys to finish. The remaining balance should have covered the remaining work and if it didn't, then that just shows how low my estimate was for the job and the other guys charged more then what I was!! I was warned by a friend of hers that I’d regret getting involved with her, she knows nothing about painting or construction or how much time is involved in doing perfect work! My equipment, my labor, my materials, my gas is not free!! If she had any inkling of getting a refund from me that went right out the door when she blatantly harassed and slandered me!! In the past 9 weeks since I last had contact from her when she was annoying me on vacation, I have made ZERO attempts to contact her by phone, text or email or see her in person! I had enough of her and moved on! She got every dollar out of me from the balance she gave me and then some! I think she is bi-polar or something or highly medicated up, its like a roller coaster ride with her, she says one thing and then totally changes course. I'm done and said all I have to say. I wish her all the best with her new place and her health. I actually thought we had a nice friendship started and she turned on me so fast! I would have been done a week before she moved in and she pulled the rug out from me. I pride myself in my work and have more 5 star ratings then anyone in my region! I realize some people you just can't please.
